Rainbows on my Fingers

I'd been playing the guitar for awhile back in 1982. Whacking around on it, at least. Never did learn how to play it. Can't do a bar chord for shit, and a hot lick has never crossed my mind. But I did get pretty proficient at changing 10 or 12 basic chords, and fingering them cleanly, and even doing some flatpicking, fingerpicking and bass string stuff.

In our cabin down on the spring we'd hung a collection of leaded-glass crystals that I'd bought, one at a time, from some headshop. Still have them, hanging in our present window, as a matter of fact.

I'd smoked a joint, or at least most of one, enough to be really stoned, and I was sitting in the cabin with the morning sun coming through the kitchen window, the sound of the creek and the spring coming through the windows into our beautiful little cabin in the valley.

I looked at my left hand on the fingerboard of the guitar that morning, and the sun was catching the crystals and pasting rainbows all over the neck of my guitar and onto my hand that was there. I thought that was too damn cool, and I wrote these lyrics. First song I ever tried to write. And still Roxanne's favorite, to this very day, although I haven't played it in many years. Thought some of you might get a kick out of it.

T.

P.S. I typed these lyrics out, and now I'm coming back up here to write this post script, to let you know that it has brought me back down to the creek in such a way... remembering where and who we were...I was...when it was written. Like yesterday. My first song.

Later. Ted.

Rainbows

Well I've got rainbows on my fingers, today.
Everything is gonna go my way,
I woke up in the greatest mood,
So come here, baby, don't want no food,
Got rainbows
On my fingers
And in my heart today.

Today was made for sunshine, not rain,
Today was made for feelin' no pain,
Sunshine waitin out the cabin door,
But first let's make love, just once more
With rainbows
In the air
All around us today.

Then let's jump up,
Feed the roosters,
They've got the right idea.
Let's spend the whole day lookin 'round
At the good things in this world we've found....
And we'll have rainbows
On our fingers
All day!

That river sounds a'ripplin' outside
A lifetime long, a mountain valley wide.
C'mon baby, we got all day
Cuz the sunshine and water are waitin' to play!
To make rainbows
On our fingers
And in our eyes today!

Look on out that window, my dear,
Mother Nature says "Wishin you was here."
Birds are singin' to the song o' the wind,
Callin' us out, we got hours to spend
With rainbvows,
And each other,
Today, all day long.

Let's hunt for a unicorn,
Out there in the woods,
Let's walk hand in hand
Through Never-Never Land
And know that it's real and it's good.
Let's spend the whole day lookin 'round
At the good things in this world we've found,
And we'll have rainbows
On our fingers
All day!

Get up now, the clock is strikin eight,
The shadow on the mountain says we're late!
Come on baby, let's take it to the limit,
Cuz that puffy white cloud has our names written in it...
And we can run around,
Like children,
With rainbows, today.

Everywhere we touch, we'll leave rainbows today.

What day is this? Who cares,
We've got rainbows...
And each other...
All day!

Man, that's GREAT stuff:

You should consider sending some of your songs to our local radio station, KXCI.

We're a rare bird these days: member supported with no advertising and some of the best music in the world. Duncan, our music director would love to hear some of your stuff, and I would not be surprised if it got some air time on one of the very eclectic shows we have.

You can listen in here: www.KXCI.org

It's the only radio staion I ever listen to - AWESOME! I'm proud to be a member.

Clear Channel can kiss my ass.

My favorite spot

Ted: You bring me back to my favorite spot.

Everyone has a favorite spot. To work out life's troubles, think about the girl who left me behind, how to cope, how to solve the hurt, how to deal with folks. At 17 years old it isn't easy.

I would walk down to the lake; a big weeping willow overhung the shore. I'd climb up into its great trunk; forked into 4 great branches; just enough room to sit, hang on, watch the waves, follow the sun dance with shimmering splendor.

A love lost, an empty heart, tears fall, why?

My favorite spot.

Thank you for the memories. Just a short time-out to stop and smell the roses!

New friends make it all worthwhile!!! Smile, its catching.
