New Columnist

Like to pass my recent good news onto my friends on this list. I've been hired by Houseboat Magazine to do a monthly Feature Column -- humor, feel-good commentary, that sort of thing. Mug shot, even, for which I had to send them some high resolution pictures this morning. Argh. High res is not kind to old people.

As a joke, a friend of mine produced this "Mug Shot."

Retained rights to all the articles and stories, can do what I want with them after publication.

But perhaps a better idea is simply for all you folks to subscribe to Houseboat Magazine with a note of explanation, "...because of that great new columnist you have, Ted Thompson!" Win/Win.

Thanks, guys.

Uh... how would you or anyone here know that? I haven't made my first public appearance to anyone at bmwlt.com yet. People frequently mistake me for Pierce Brosnan.... after a mauling by a grizzly.

Awesome - congrats!

My wife and I were just talking last night about how we had not been to Lake Powell in years, and how we thought our houseboat vacation there was among the best we have ever taken... anywhere in the world. That INCLUDES renting a barge in France and literally striking off on our own down the canals without ANY plan and me speaking very little French.

We each get to pick where and when we go for our birthdays each year - mine is the end of May (PERFECT for Powell - no crowds but the water is a wee bit chilly and it can be VERY windy)

Kinda thinkin' about a tour through Southern Utah on the LT -Zion, Bryce, etc. , then ending up with a rental for 3 - 5 days on Powell before heading back to Tucson....

May be a plan!

All I gotta' do now is find a nice rental - the Del Webb stuff I rented before was really horrible... A major rip-off.

Hey Ron, the people outside of CA, NV, and AZ probably won't get the Del Webb thing.

If you find a good deal on a boat at Powell let me know. We're kicking it around for the fall. She's a little pissed we did'nt go to the Caribbean this winter.

Yep, I do now. The joke is on me!

I was confused because your reply immediately followed mine. You know -- "it's all about me", right?

Your humor is fine; my understanding was flawed. Doh!!

Hey Rick -

Yeah, I think about the only way to find a deal is through friends or local contact - there are a lot of folks (especially in Phoenix) that have multiple owners in the big ones, but they are way expensive for just two people.

If I stumble on one I'll let you know.

I've traveled the Caribbean extensively (sailed it too several times) but will never go back - it is getting pretty dangerous there, I had a run in with a "dock boy" one time trying to steal me blind. He did look pretty good though in my new Bass Weejun loafers as I chased him off the pier with a baseball bat. He was a little too fast for 'ol Captain Ron...

We now leave every piece of jewelry, including watches and even Amy's rings etc. in the safe now when we travel abroad. Just too tempting for the scoundrels. I always liked the idea of no watches on vacation anyway...
