Cool Olympic medals, strange origins of people

I was going to make some crazy comment when the Speed Skating gold medalist was from Texas, but then the Half Pipe snow boarding one is from here in the San Diego area!

Seems that one would expect Winter Olympic winners to be from where there is a LOT of snow and ice, not from Texas and SoCal!

Guess we can expect the first Summer gold medalists to be from North Dakota and Alaska then?

One of these times the luge and down hill will be won by an Etheopian or Egyptian. The medals all look like CD's.

Yeah but the skating champion's parents own a rollerskating rink he had been on skates since about the time he learned to walk, and previously he was a several time inline speed skating champion.. very similar. And now days there are indoor ice rinks all over

And Shawn White is a skateborder, with his own halfpipe in his back yard, then added snowboarding.. Not as easy of a transistion in my opinion. I have no problem going from roller blades to ice skates, but to me skateboards are much eaiser than snowboards. But still, not a long way from San Diego to a ski resort.

Shawn has won 1 silver medal at summer X-games for Vert-ramp, and 4 winter X-games gold medals for half pipe before the Olympics.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Lightbulb The World Is Flat

In Thomas L. Friedman's recent book 'The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century', he talks about how small the world is becoming due to the internet, cell phones, transportation, and etc... Every city, country, and nation seems to be growing closer and closer together. It's a really cool principle when you put some thought into it. All of these factors have flattened the globe.

It's no wonder we have a Speed Skating gold medalist from Texas, and a snow boarder from the San Diego area.

I've been researching my family tree for a couple of years now, and in the last week I've added the lady who sits opposite me at work. we are only very distantly related through marriages, but that is just too spookie. My research took me to where I'm now living in Gloucester, (never been here before 5 years ago) and found her surname on my tree and dug a little further and got all the way back down to her !

The world just gets smaller and smaller all the time.
