Bike vs Car video

This came from a skydiving forum and will definitely make you flinch. Probably been around for a while, my first view. Should be seen by all vehicle drivers.

Makes the point.

Play it a few times. View angle or something is different at the begining - no headlight flash like later. Not a good example of how to make a bike visible, but a great example to cage drivers.

Posted 4 days ago in the Chit Chat forum. Not that it doesn't warrant repeating. A good link to send to all of our cager friends.

sorry.... missed it.

Thanks... I missed it in chit chat. I guess one of the challenges with the topics split in many categories.

We have a situation where I pull from our neighborhood street into a 4 lane split highway, where I look to the left, before making a right turn, fail to look right (wouldn't have a car approaching the wrong way!) and turn right into a bicycle riding facing traffic (the wrong way). Seems to happen too many times and I'm still guilty of doing it. This video helps to reinforce what I need to be doing better.

... I'm a Brit, and that is a Brit public information film (gov. sponsored commercial) from a series called 'Think'. In the late 70's, early eighties, there was a series of short (similar) films, with the tag-line 'think once, think twice, think BIKE'. At the time this came out, the average cage inmate became a lot more aware of us ... over the years, this awareness has subsided to nothingness - the new 'THINK' campaign is trying to get 'Chelsea Tractor' drivers (London Mums using 4x4 vehicles to take their kids 2 school in big cities) aware of bikes, ... but it's so low key that no one takes any notice, and cagers still squish us

Dano,

Always look both ways, even on a one-way street or divided highway. Just because they shouldn't be going the wrong way doesn't mean they won't. I just check both directions no matter what. Maybe it comes from having ridden and driven on both sides of the road in various countries, but it only takes a second. I also look both ways just after my light turns green when I'm heading straight through an intersection. All it takes is one guy running the light, in either direction, to ruin your day.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

The only problem here is no one watching the ad would care, until they saw the damage done to the car door. Busted-up biker on the road, no problem. But dent their door and watch the outrage happen.

Just too many years commuting in L.A. and O.C. But cynicism and awareness while riding keeps you alive.

See you in Cambria.
