Almost Instant Karma

Thursday, I'm sitting in Reagan waiting for my already delayed flight back to Orlando when I get a text from Orbitz. Flight is now cancelled.....great. So I jump in line at the service desk behind a young lady that was on the same flight. She's pissed, and she wants everybody to know it....great. I try to remind Drama Queen that nobody in eye sight is responsible for her predicament. Her reply? "I don't give a shit, somebody is going to get cussed at!" I'm guessing that meant somebody in addition to me.

We both get re-routed through Charlotte, and have about 20 minutes before that plane starts boarding. My son and I get seated all the way in the back, but it's cool, at least we're going home. You know? Well here comes the Drama Queen and she's still pissed. "New Years Eve", "They should know", "I can't believe this"...yada, yada.

Then we get delayed on the tarmac for 20 minutes....great. I can hardly tune out the din coming from right across the aisle

Anyway, we get to Charlotte and it's double time it over to the next concourse to make the connection to O-town. The plane is pretty full but there's one open seat right next to me....great.

But then a wonderful thing happens, the door shuts. Hmmmm, no DQ. She never got on the plane...missed the flight....damn, that must suck.

Almost instant karma, it's a beautiful thing.

Got any instant karma stories?

After 30+ years of air travel it's not difficult to realize that the only one that can help in this type of a situation is the airline employee at the service desk (or your travel agent if on company business).

Years ago I met my boss flying in from Dallas at Dulles for a continuing trip to Orlando to terminate a key employee. They closed the flight 30 minutes before departure for no apparent reason. My boss called our travel agent and reserved two 1st class tickets on the next flight which happened to be the next morning at 5:45 AM
.
When we got to the service desk, the agent told us that the next flight was at 5:45 the next day and unfortunately was already overbooked.

He explained in his best Tejas gentleman's drawl that he understood that was the situation but that he had made a reservation based on her anticipated cooperation in the First Class section for that flight. I recall that he flashed his Million Mile American card as well. She smiled and said, "Of course sir and you and your travel associate will be our guest for the evening at the airport Hilton with the appropriate meal vouchers"

What's the old saying . . .you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?
