Christmas auto accident.

We got a special gift for Christmas. We were sitting at a traffic light in Medina Ohio, when along came a Ford wagon and boom right into the back of our car. My insurance called it a total loss with $5,200 worth of damage. So we get money, but try to find a used car with the amount of money they gave us comparable with the low miles we had on our car with it. The good side is all four of us were ok. Its just do dang frustrating dealing with insurance companies. We're out a car, and the opposing insurance company has yet to authorize its liability.

Re: Christmas auto accident.

How you see an insurance company: an institute that you pay money, so it will help you when you're in trouble that you can't afford.

How the insurance company sees you: a person that pays us money so we can get rich, and mostly help ourselves.

I feel for you. All my experiences with insurance companies are bad. No exceptions. They seem to mostly care about their own walle, instead of yours.

Good luck with them greedy bastards

Re: Christmas auto accident.

Kinda had the same go-a-round with an insurance company when their insured backed into me. They kept going back and fourth with what "needed" to be done. Al the while telling me to have my carrier pick up the bill and they would "hash" it out. This lasted for about a week. I finally got to the person that had my claim and told them I would be paying the charge with my monies. I will then send them the bill and at the same time file in small claims, wanting penalty charges as well! low and behold, the next day i got a call from the repair shop, the charges were covered in full.. Stay persistent and you may get what you want. Not knowing the particulars, i'd think you'd have a valid claim for a rental car at the very least to get you around until you found what you wanted..
Just my $.02- feel free to give me change back!

Once you cash the check, You're on your own.
If that's not enough money do your comparisons and get back with the insurance company..

Re: Christmas auto accident.

My special gift was on Christmas Eve. A 2002 F150 Ford pickup struck me while I was stopped in traffic on Interstate 95. Luckily, no one was hurt. The insurance adjusted did a rough estimate at $4,200. The car is only worth $3,650. I do not know what I am going to do. I cannot replace it for $3,650. Another 2,400 miles and my car would have reached 200k. It is in excellent condition, but is 15 years old. I will most likely purchase one of the following vehicles:
2010 VW TDI Jetta Sportswagon
2010 Audi A3 TDI
2006 e320 CDI Mercedes
I am leaning towards the Mercedes.
Oh bye the way, the truck did manage to get a scratch on it.
Good luck with your outcome!

Absolutely right!

And here is an update. Today my insurance company called it a total loss, and got back to me on the value. I was prepared to argue it had less than 43K miles on it so I found one at a dealer and was going to argue I wanted that amount. They came up with $1,000 more than my figure. The opposing insurance company has yet to contact their customer but today agreed to pay my deductible. So, everybody is ok, and I got what I paid for the car two years ago. Now I just got to find another killer deal and buy another one.

Glad you weren't hure either. A very tough spot to be in. Mine was $5,200 damage, but they gave me much more than that. Thing is I don't want payments right now. So its got to be used and a great deal.

Good luck with that one up there in the rustbelt. might want to head south and look around. Go on line to some of the "local" papers where you may want to buy check Craigslist in areas without a real "winter".

Glad everyone was ok. It just as easily could have gone the other way! I guarantee that you were NOT the first dude this F'K plowed into, either. I hope someone can get him called in for a license reassessment.

Re: Christmas auto accident.

Well I finally heard from Nationwide insurance today. They are finally sending my deductible, but only after I called my insurance agent complaining that their adjuster has not even returned my calls. My agent got a hold of the adjusters manager today and finally got some action. My insurance had already sent me a check and we already bought a replacement. I think this is finally coming to an end.
