New Zeppelin Airship over San Francisco.

Ron, you will like this. Certainly higher technology now, far more maneuverable.

Re: New Zeppelin Airship over San Francisco.

This thing was flying over downtown Oakland yesterday afternoon. From the ground this thing looks substantially bigger that the Good Year and Monster.com blimps. A ride, especially around the Bay, would be very cool.

I work one exit from Moffett Air Field where they tie this down so I get to see it flying around all the time. It's pretty cool seeing it cruise around the skies here in the valley.

Re: New Zeppelin Airship over San Francisco.

Yep, mighty cool David. I've been following their development over the past several years. So great to see the Zeppelin brand back in the air!

I flew on several of the test flights for the GA 42 (picture below) back in 1987 including a flight at night in an intense electrical storm over England. This was especially nerve racking since the GA was the first airship ever to be equipped with fly by wire. I wore out my 5 day deodorant pads in a couple of hours...

We didn't have nose and tail strobes mounted for night flying, so stuck a single strobe inside the hull. Pretty impressive to see an airship turned into a giant strobe light! When we flew through clouds the entire cloud would blink on and off - which prompted several hundred calls to the local constabulary regarding UFOs.

Those vectored thrust engines are absolutely awesome - it takes the ground crew from 100 down to 10 - and even then they are only really needed when it gets windy.

Here's a couple of quick videos of the airship I'm currently flying - at only 90 feet long versus 250 it's a more like a Porsche compared to a Greyhound bus - but a very FAST Greyhound bus!
