Lost Generation

This is really powerful:
A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite.
This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

It's a simple interleaving of "factual" statements with periodic interjections of specifically positive or specifically negative phrases. The actual "facts" and phrases are irrelevant, it's just set up so that reading one way you get:

bad fact
positive

good fact
negative

bad fact
. . .

And reading it the other way gives:

bad fact
negative

good fact
positive

bad fact
. . .

Even if the statement makes sense or somehow rings true, it's simple smoke and mirrors meant to confound and amaze those who don't have the capacity to dissociate the "message" from the compelling method of delivery.

We're all inundated with tons of carefully crafted propaganda every single day meant to sway our emotions and push us in one direction or another. In order to survive this constant onslaught of "facts" we as a society of free-thinking individuals must have the ability to see through the facade and get down to the truth, or at least as close to the truth as were allowed to get.

But most folks don't have the intelligence or stamina to wade through all the crap, and so it becomes relatively easy to control the masses through manufactured emotion rather than logic . . .

While Ken is technically correct, Jerry. It still shows some savvy on the part of the writer and is well crafted.

I'm trying to teach my kids that entitlements are the enemy. They sap your strength and stifle your creativity. Learn to make something out of nothing or at least make something better out of what you have. Live with passion, not anger. You don't deserve anything, go earn something. If you give anything less than the best you have to offer, you've cheated yourself. I hope some of it's getting through the fog of what school bombards them with daily.

Well, you did specifically ask, and in a tone that suggested that you really didn't know . . .

And yes, it was well done. A well-presented magic show can still be entertaining even if you understand how it was done.

At least I gave it a try.....it's harder than it looks to make a message positive then negative. Just pickin' on ya, old riding buddy Ken.
