Re: If you get 'performance award'...

False!
http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/ticket.asp

In the 80's I accidently overpaid a parking ticket - was paying a bunch of other bills and wrote the wrong amount on the check. Didn't discover it until I reconciled that month's statement. Called The City of Los Angeles and was promptly told that they do not refund overpayments. Luckily it was only $10 or $15 too much....

Damn.

Next you'll tell me that the $2 check I just sent to the IRS with "Paid in Full" in the memo section isn't going to settle my tax bill when they cash it.

Sadly, that only works in some states on an ongoing and OPENLY DISPUTED retail account.

Re: If you get 'performance award'...

Here's what will work:

Got a performance award, paid it and a couple of months later the insurance agent called and said she was going to have to increase our cost because of the ticket. I finally had enough and asked if this was a requirement, a law or were they allowed by some law. She finally told me they were allowed, not required. Informed her that I might move a little fast at times, I have never had a chargeable accident or claim.
I then informed her that if she increased my rates, I would take my insurance business elsewhere. She go a little mad and told me that wherever I went, they would be charging me at the higher rate due to the ticket. I told her that I had no doubt they would do just that but seeing as I was also bringing my home owners policy and business liability along with it, they would probably be nice enough to over look the little performance award that started this conversation. Informed her that I would be watching my bill and if there was an increase, I'm going elsewhere, said goodbye and hung up. My rates stayed the same.
When the ticket points expired, I went with a different insurance agent.

Re: If you get 'performance award'...

I find it amazing who thinks of schitt like this? WAY to much time on their hands!.....

Also, guys, with the economy the way it is, a lot of agencies are REALLY pushing the chicken-schitt awards.....Shameful NOT to think for yourself.....

Re: If you get 'performance award'...

As a sideline...I received a "careless driving ticket in Gilpin County, CO for crossing the double yellow. County sheriff wrote it for $174.00. Said I had 20 days to pay or go to court in mid September. (ticket was issued 7/23/09). I lost the paperwork but tracked it down after many calls. Their system is so messed up that a clerk told me that over a 1/3 of the tickets don't make it to the courts in time and are dismissed. I keep calling them and offering to pay it but they can't find it anywhere and told me I don't have to pay it. I worry it will show up someday but they keep telling me that there is no record of it anymore.

Got to love Colorado for their ineptitude!

33%?! Why even bother writing it?

But, I think that "no record" could very easily turn into bench warrant W/O any notification from the court! It's a shame an officer would write you such a chicken-shit ticket with a judicial process in such disarray!

Does the individual agents have the authority to raise or not raise your premium? I thought that type of decisions come from the home office?

Don't be so sure it was ineptitude. I have received a couple of questionable tickets that never made it to the courthouse. My belief is that the officer made a decision not to turn them in. Sounds strange I know.

How about when the officer shows up in traffic court and asks that the citation be dismissed because he has no "recollection" of it? Now. I may be senile, but THAT is pushing the envelope!

I believe if they were truthful, they would have to say they did not have a specific recollection of many of the citations they write. What they testify to in court is based on their past recollection "refreshed" by the ticket and the notes on the back side. If the average ticket that makes it's way to trial takes 90 to 120 days and the officer writes 20 tickets a day, that's a lot of tickets to have an independent recollection of.
