Google ChromeOS

Since Google released the very first pre-alpha of their new ChromeOS I decided to download, compile and install ChromeOS on one of the spare disks. Considering that this is pre-alpha software it is already very nice, boots in less than 10 seconds and presents a couple new interesting concepts.

Given that most likely Google will again create another "Cheaper tyan free" program for the hardware manufacturers I believe this will send shivers down the spine of M$.

You just can beat getting paid by Google for installing their OS on your hardware instead of paying for it.

This is going to be a very interesting year after ChromeOS is going to be released.

Re: Google ChromeOS

They said the same thing about Linux. How well does Chrome run MS products?

Chrome is Linux based. It is designed as a lightweight O/S and will initiallly appear on Netbook type devices. It will not run MS apps - it is designed to be primarily Web centric.

Re: Google ChromeOS

I think its fantastic that MS finally has some competition - since they've been so slow getting off their butts and always playing catch up the last few years. Bing is off to a better start than anyone ever thought, and is slowly but surely gaining market share. To Goggle it's probably nothing more than a minor annoyance at this point.

One thing to keep in mind though, it's kind of like waking a sleeping giant. MS is sitting on tons of cash right now and $50 million dollars a day of free cash flow!

They're actually having a hard time trying to decide what to do with it. While everyone likes to rag on them they have the ability - especially with an extremely rare AAA credit rating these days - to do just about ANYTHING they want, when they want, to anyone they want - even Google.

Sure will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the coming years. With a $260 BILLION market cap I'm not selling my MS stock any time soon.

(Ya gotta love Google though - two guys starting out in a garage - just like Allen and Gates - how cool is THAT!)
