IT Question - Browser is running very slow

Nothing seems to be running in the background, switched to Explorer 7 a few weeks ago and up until yesterday, all was good. Last two days it has been dragging. I can open a web site, but once in, it really slows down. Any suggestions?

Try upgrading to Explorer 8 or better yet use Firefox

Re: IT Question - Browser is running very slow

Have you gone to one of the internet speed test sites to make sure the slowness is not your internet connection?

Does the slowness happen at all times or at only particular times of day?

Are other internet applications such as email working normally?

I checked the speed on two sites and my local ISP Brighthouse is about 10MB per sec and the other, an independent is about 5 MB so initial connections seem quick. Outlook is normal so it just seems to be inside web sites. Once inside it really slows down which leads me to think it is my virus software. I presently use AVG which is up to date and seems to be working OK.

Rebooting the modem and wireless router fixes that problem for me. Just unplug the power connectors in the back of the units, wait ten seconds, plug them back in. Happens all the time here, and the reboot always seems to fix it. Might be something to try, if you haven't already. Combine it with a window wash and computer reboot for best results.

+1 on using another browser. IE is *THE* worst when it comes to compliance and speed. Mozilla, Chrome, Safari are all faster and more compliant.

OK - gona turn everything off, pull plugs and batteries for the router and see what happens. Weird thing thought is my initial connections are quick, it's just when I get inside the site.

Re: IT Question - Browser is running very slow

make sure the issue happens on multiple sites and it is not site specific.

suggest installing firefox--you will be able to determine if the issue is specific to IE or not.

Re: IT Question - Browser is running very slow

I shut everything down, pulled the battery out of the router and it seems to be running a little faster, but not what it was several days ago. If I install Firefox to test it, will it mess up my IE 7? I'm thinking to also go with the IE 8 upgrade.

WOW !!!!!!!!

Ok, I switched to Firefox ( I think I did!) and it seems to be quite a bit faster than IE was before I had the problem. Amazing.... Hope it's not just my imagination. I like the way it works too.

THANKS for all of the advise....

Favorates dissappeared

I'm having a few navigation issues with Firefox! Can't find my FAVORITES and it seems that every web site I go to remains on the top of the page in a line of the browser tool bar. They pop up as I go to new sites and don't disappear.

Re: IT Question - Browser is running very slow

Thanks - I started a new thread in reference to Firefox in chit chat and got all of the answers to my questions and a few tips to boot. With Firefox, my browser in running as fast as it used to and I like the other improvements.

Microsoft has lost another......

Re: IT Question - Browser is running very slow

I use Firefox, although any standards-compliant browser would be my preference over IE. In fact, sometimes I think phoning up whoever it was who made the website, getting them to dictate the HTML code to me over the phone, typing it out in notepad, and then running it on my PC would be preferable to using IE.

As for using Firefox over other decent browsers, I think it's the extensions which win me over. Firefox has some great extensions which I love
