President's motorcycle officer injured
NM - A Bernalillo Police Department motorcycle officer was injured Friday morning while accompanying President George Bush to Kirtland Air Force Base. The accident happened on Interstate 25 near Avenida Cesar Chavez. The officer was part of the presidential motorcade.
The interstate was closed at the time as a security precaution for the president. The southbound lanes of I-25 were closed for several hours. It was reopened at about 12:30..
There were no visible skid marks at the scene of the accident and there didn't appear to be significant damage to the motorcycle.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said that the officer was transported to a nearby hospital. He was reported to be alert and communicating. Preliminary reports are that he may have suffered some sort of facial injury.
Bernalillo Police Chief Fred Radosevich said that he wasn't aware of the condition of the officer. The officer's name has not been released.
