An abusive husband? He did NOT put a bullet in your WORTHLESS ass! So how abusive could he have been?!

Re: Now THIS Sheriff would get my vote

So she was yelled at, by a Patriot Guard member because she repeatedly tried to pass a funeral procession that was traveling slower than she wanted to drive, and she thinks THEY were creating a safety hazard.

I'm constantly amazed by the seemingly common belief that individuals think it's "Equality for everyone else, special privileges for me." It's just sad!

Re: Now THIS Sheriff would get my vote

Not to hyjack the thread or take away from the sheriff, but when I was a kid, growing up in a little bitty town, we only had one radio station (AM of course) and it announced funerals if there were any that day. Our house was on the route to the cemetery and my mom and I would go out and stand on the curb as the procession drove by and all up and down the road I could see the neighbors doing the same thing. Cars stopped and people actually got out of them and stood in silence as they moved through town and it didn't matter a lick if we knew the person or not. Respect...what the hell is that?

Back to patting the sheriff on the back

During my dad's procession, I wittnessed several cars passing by us. I also noticed a truck stopped on the shoulder. The driver standing beside his cab, with hat in hand, and head bowed.
I was talking to some freinds after the funeral, they said that before they got to the truck. The driver had gotten back in and pulled the tractor right up to the center line. (this took up the whole north bound lane, shoulder and all.)

Re: Now THIS Sheriff would get my vote

Well since Jerry already hijacked this thread,
I guess it's alright to add my little story.

Last weekend I was up in Crystal River visiting my parents with my brother
who flew down from Michigan for the weekend.

We were traveling south on a four lane divided highway
when we saw a large police escorted procession of motorcycles going north,
after the bikes passed there was a long line of cars with their headlights on,
we assumed it was a funeral,

then we saw the National Guard lined up on the side of the road,
I got a "lump" in my throat, my brother ( a Passenger in my truck) took of his hat as we passed by.

He understands, and frankly I'm proud of him for it.

When I picked up the paper the next morning,
I learned it was a soldiers welcome home ride,
unfortunately he came home a paraplegic.

Re: Now THIS Sheriff would get my vote

Where I live in Wales, every 'valley' has its different customs (dialects even). But the valley I live in has a way with funerals. No shop is open, no pub (until afterwards) and EVERYONE goes to the funeral. The chapels are never big enough for everyone, but it doesn't stop the custom. Afterwards, everyone tours the pubs with the nearest and dearest and speeches are made, glasses raised and songs sung (unfortunately I am not in the part of Wales where good singing is a requirement!).
There is never an announcement as far as I know, never an invitation, you just hear about it. But this is a valley that when an ambulance goes past, you tend to work out how long it has taken to come back so you can work out who it was for. By the time you get to the pub there is a get well card and collection for flowers on the go, a rota to tend the garden and help the family.
However, don't ever mistake this for utopia - just try keeping a secret here!! It works both ways.

"Whenever you find you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect" Mark Twain
