This evening, CNN had their Washington bureau chief on; he explained how they got all this to work. Very impressive, but is it... necessary? Seems like a giant gimmick to me.

But it would be cool for the pres to be able to give a speech and not be exposed to any possible threats.

Agreed, but it's just technology being pushed forward for the sake of technology. Media outlets are a huge driver of new technology, as they have the capital and the audience already.
