Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

Amazing! 349 to 161 with a few more states to decide.

What a drubbing! Looks like the people got who they wanted.

Now we can go back to riding and hoping for the promised change.

Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

Well actually it was 6 million out of about 117 million, about 5% victory. But it doesn't really matter, it was over before the polls were closed in Alaska and Hawaii.
So I wonder where we'll be in 4 years? Should be interesting to say the least.
Time for a ride!

WOW!!
Some of the comments on this board worried me a bit. Maybe the polls were wrong?
Nope - Obama wins hands down.
Now it will be interesting to see if the population who were against him back their new president like they traditionally do.

If you really want to go back to riding, why say something so obnoxious and provocative?

My Guy (and Gal) lost. Not by a small amount but Significantly.

I don't know how "obnoxious and provocative" saying he "got beat to a pulp" is, but, that shoe seems to fit the situation well (in my demented mind anyway ).

But at least I'm going to hold out ordering the bumper sticker until I see if there is a "Bikers for...." version being made.

I think I will go for that ride now.

Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

What's done is done. I won't be disappointed by this new admin as I have no expectations of anything substantial coming to pass during their tenure. After all, Congress has been Dem controlled for the last two years and nothing significant has been attempted, much less accomplished.

The terrorist factions will test Obama to see how far they can push. I, regrettably, expect another attack on US soil in the next 4 years. The terrorists will anticipate a 'diplomatic' response from the Dem administration versus the military strike they would currently experience from Bush and, thus, will feel less inclined to restrain themselves.

Hopefully Obama will stay the course in Iraq until they are capable of protecting themselves. A premature withdrawal of troops would be disastrous; all that has been sacrificed will be for naught.

Expect your taxes to increase. Although the federal gov't collects far more in tax revenue than is needed to pay for the essentials the Dems have always had a tax and spend mentality - don't expect this to change. The dems will attempt to reduce the federal deficeit by raising taxes on everyone, despite their pre-election rhetoric. The more tax revenue collected, the more they will piss it away. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind paying additional taxes to accomplish a balanced budget and get this country back on the road to solvency if, and only if, wasteful spending and pork barrel politics were eliminated....forever. We all know that scenario will never materialize. Dems will continue to pander to the welfare societies and the young and naive of this country with promises of good times ahead to continue receiving their votes, the votes that keep them in office.

I sincerely hope we all have something to look forward to in the next 4 years as I would like to be pleasantly surprised by the unexpected.

On the brighter side, the dollar has gained approx 20% against the Euro in the past 4-5 months. We could all take a bargain vacation in Europe, sit at sidewalk bistros and discuss politics and marvel at how wonderful the world is with our socialist brethren, now that the US has regained "European approval" via the election. Oh damn!....Won't be able to do that.....the increased taxes payable to the new admin just wiped out that bargain vacation. Oh well..... easy come, easy go. Guess I'll just have to wait for CCR in beautiful Rapid City, SD where gasoline is $1.99 per gallon this morning.......WOOOO HOOOO!!!

I've always wondered how someone can get elected to Congress, do nothing
but vote 'present', spend 3 years running for another job while getting a
paycheck to do a job he's not doing, and have the gall to say he's the one
for change and properity?

Let me get these off my chest too:

o Who's job is it to certify that he meets the minimum requirement for the job of
President by the Constitution? ONE REQUIREMENT. Obviously not the stupid
Democratic judge who threw out the lawsuit asking Mr. Obama to just prove it.

o His campaign received what, 200 or 300 million dollars from 'overseas'. Isn't
that kinda 'illegal' ? Oops, I forgot, we're dealing with Lawyers again. Seems like
he's going to be owing a lot of people/corporations/dictators favors..

That felt better. Well now that a majority of Americans (oops...supposed Americans)
have voted him in, lets see what he does. I'll hold my reservation on the "Impeach
Obama" stickers for now...

Your restraint is admirable. And if the time comes you want to trot out those stickers, you can just take ones for Bush and change the name. That should save you a lot of money.

Thumbs up Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

Just wanted to express my pride regarding John McCains concession last night. It was a very gracious speech calling for all Americans to work together and support the new admin to get the country back on track. McCains demeanor was a far cry from the complaining, whimpering, and whining Kerry and Gore demonstrated in 2000 and 2004.

McCain is a class act. Many politicians could learn much from him.

Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

Hmmm, calling this election a beating is roughly the same as calling a football score of 21 to 19 a blowout. The winning team scored first and maintained the lead throughout the contest, so there was not doubt regarding the outcome, but a beating? No.

Looks like some members of the forum need to learn what John McCain knew long before he was a guest at the Hanoi Hilton. Country before Party! I don't know what the next 2 or 4 years will bring, but if we intend to fix the mess we're in, gloating and whining won't do it. I hope McCain's supporters can set the example by being as gracious and supportive as he is. I also hope that Obama's supporters learn from that example and exhibit some dignity. What goes around, comes around. We are brothers and will fail or succeed as a Nation.

Learn from the Soviet Union, party affiliation will not protect you when the crisis comes.

I interpret "character" as honesty, committment, and integrity. Attacks by a candidate on another candidate's statements, policies, viewpoints, etc. do not (to me) impune or diminish that persons character; they are simply part of the process of politics.

John McCain's character was never in question. I felt he was, by far, the better candidate for the office of president because he is an individual of demonstrated character and substance; qualities essential to effectively deal with the issues confronting the globe's preeminent leader. I cast my ballot for John McCain with no regret or afterthought.

I sincerely hope president-elect Obama has something more than the mere fluff of oratoracal skills for guiding the USA through the next term.

Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

I prefer to take the high road when it comes to finding solutions, ie, focus on the mission, I don't give a shitz what excuse is used for politics or anything else for that matter IMHO.

I think Obama did just that although he had me worried a few times there. I believe his advisors understood this and it showed.

It makes me cringe when the whole world is watching Americans who pull-off petty personal attacks, etc, when I did not teach my children to be that way. And John made me cringe more than once. Being a vet, I have the utmost respect for what he has done but when folks take the low road, trying to win by berating someone versus working the issues, I won't vote for them.

I agree that his concession speech was humble and well done. He was beat fair and square, and he stepped aside gracefully. Now lets hope that his integrity will allow him to work across the aisle to help do what's best for this country.

As for 2000 & 2004, those concession speeches might have gone differently had there not been rampant charges of corruption and voter fraud, many of which were never fully settled. Call it a mandate or just a simple majority, no one could really argue the legitimacy of this election. At least that's something to be proud of.

Let's see. 52 to 48 before paper ballots are counted.

If 100 people voted, and 1 person changed their mind, it would have been a tie.

Yup.
A bad beating!

The Supreme Court settled the 2000 election issue.
Voters settled the 2004 election, there was no real issue.

John McCain is in a completely different league than Gore and Kerry, and unlike them, I have no doubt he will put forth his very best effort to cooperate, contribute, and guide the new boys in the right direction.

McCain screwed up big time when he chose Palin over Condalisa Rice.
If he had chosen Rice as a running mate he would be pres right now.
I would not have a clue if he even offered the position to her.
Maybe she declined, who knows.
She is one smart lady and knows the world events.
Just a side note, I turned on the tv this am and what was the first thing I hear coming out of our soon to be in office pres. " daaaa, it might take two terms before I can implement everything that I promised. What a bill of goods that little dickens has sold the good old us of a.

Re: Want some Pulp With that BEATING?

It seems everyone votes based on their life experience and I am no exception. As a retired military man I can not in good conscience vote anyone into the position of Commander and Chief of the most formidable military in the world that has not performed the first day of service to his country. Even if I could get past that I did not see 1 thing in this mans background that qualifies him to be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world. As for me I voted for a Warrior and a Patriot whom I know through his proven actions under the most arduous of conditions, would never knowingly do anything to harm this great Nation. The only people I know personally that voted the other way were not voting for someone or something, they were voting against the Bush admin. The last I checked Bush was not running. Of all the Presidents that have had the honor to be called Commander and Chief all but 7 (now make that 8) have served their country in uniform. The last one that didn't was impeached (totally not related but just sayin ). I know military service is not the only qualification needed to serve as President but in my mind, based on my life experience, it is very important to me.

Just curious, do you count Bush as one with "military service?"

Ummm YES I do at least, unles you don't count the National Guard as Military Service.

GW Bush National Guard

I guess community organizing in Chicago or shooting baskets in Hawaii is equivalent "service"

Ya know the one thing I was thinking about is how would you give Obama a Top Secret Security Clearance??? If you associate with known radicals admitted or not or admit using illicit drugs you can not get a clearance to be in the CIA or FBI. Come to think of it I do not think you could be a Police Officer or State Trooper. Boy America has sure changed. At Least Slick Willy said he did not in hale.

Never really gave that a thought but excellent point. They went back and talked to my High School teachers when I got mine.
I met a guy in one of my training classes that told me he was denied a clearance because he had checked out (The Anarchists Cookbook) from the library. He eventually got his clearance but had to jump through some hoops.

Well let's just hope he doesn't abuse the American Majorities trust.

I find that quite intriguing. You are, of course, talking from firsthand experience here? Maybe you spent a few nights in the Hanoi Hilton alongside McCain? Or at least pulled his military transcripts for personal review? Otherwise, you're just going on rumor and innuendo as to what actually happened there, which is only as accurate as your source.

I do agree that military service can build character and bring out the best in men (and women, too). But it can also bring out the worst.

So while serving is an admirable thing and a good prerequisite for Commander-in-Chief, being President involves so many more skills than just that.

Still, you're welcome to vote based on your conscious, just like the rest of us. At least we still have that freedom.

Knowing enough about the system to get elected.

The Republicans figured out 8 years ago that nothing really matters unless you can get your guy(s) into power, while the Democrats haven't had a clue recently so they've been playing catch-up. Maybe the two parties have simply swapped in that regard, or maybe it really is a crap-shoot based on the vagaries of public opinion and current events. I hate to think that both parties run their campaigns like American Idol, where you just keep putting folks forward and hoping that one of them gets lucky and nails it. But more and more that seems to be the case, and so we're stuck with whoever looks good and pisses off the fewest amount of voters.

Sure, this race was "close" percentage wise, but it was a sound thrashing based on electoral college votes. And as we all learned in 2004, that's what really counts. The bottom line is that he ran a brilliant campaign where it mattered and so took home the prize. That at least shows some skill in playing the game.

But as said many times before, we'll all just have to wait a few years to see if he really has what it takes to make this country "better". And even that term is arguable, depending on who you talk to.

No, the Holocaust was a terrible thing, as was the Vietnam war. We're not disputing that either of those happened here.

But you can no more tell me exactly what McCain did or said while a prisoner, than I can tell you exactly what Hitler said in his bunker. You weren't there, and neither was I.

But these folks sure think they know what McCain said. Of course, they're probably just a bunch of crazy conspiracists anyway . . .
