Cool I may have been the victim of a REVERSE SCAM!!!

Most people are concerned about buying something online and getting screwed out of the money. Well ... you ain't gonna believe this, but just the opposite may have happened to me. I sold my GT on eBay, the buyer paid the bike off, then I received the Title from BMW Financial ... paid in full!

Here's the REVERSE SCAM part of it...

The buyer has disappeared! He's not returning my calls, my emails, nothing! I'm supposed to pick him up at the airport in 3 hours, but I haven't heard from the guy in 2 days!!! And his last email to me did leave some room for doubt whether he was going to be able to make the trip or not.

Sellers beware out there! It's getting CRAZY!!!

Joe,
I guess my question to you is, what is the scam? You state you have a clear title and the loan is paid in full. Are you concerned that the payment to BMW financial was a bad check and you will now be hit with past due amounts, fees, etc.

Please expand on this so the feeble minded like me understand what the true consequences are.

thanks

Roy

Re: I may have been the victim of a REVERSE SCAM!!!

Are you going to go try to find him at the airport?

Maybe it was just the BMW Gods that saw your bike on Ebay. They knew that they couldn't let Joe slip through their fingers. So they, paid off your loan and sent you the title.

I've never heard of anything like this before. Hopefully the buyer is alright and not injured in any way.

The scam? This guy is just "acting" like a buyer. He sent a certified check to BMW Financial, paid the bike off, but now ... I'm stuck with this bike! How awful!!!!

He has a connecting flight in Chicago. He should be on the ground right now, and for the next 45 minutes. If I don't hear from him, I really don't know what to do. I guess he'll call from the Cleveland airport if I'm not there for him, now won't he? I can be there in 45 mins or less...

How about I'll meet you at the airport in 45 mins and I'll be the buyer

That would probably work if you knew the guy's name ... and if I had never met you.

Just tried calling again . . . he's still not answering his cell.

The check may be bogus. A coworker sold he sons car on e-bay. She received a bank check from Harris bank of London. The check looked very authentic, the problem is Harris does not have a branch in London.

Naw. No bogus check. I'm holding the title in my hand. Do you really think that BMW Financial would send the Title off without validating the funds?

You worry too much. Being in the bike business I've sold hundreds of bikes and some of the scenarios are quite odd.

How's this one...I just sold 5 bikes that got shipped to Africa. No joke. Thought it was a scam from the beginning, but the funds cleared and it all worked out in the end.

Maybe he got cold feet about meeting a National Treasure?

I can't believe that ANYONE took this thread with an ounce of seriousness. I guess I should've put it in the humor sub-forum.
