Thumbs down The World Series . . .

I wasn't sure if it was just me or what? So I Googled "World Series TV Ratings" and found this report. I didn't hear anyone talking about the Series this year. Not even from my friends that are HUGE baseball fans. Typically, I'll even watch the Series, no matter whose playing. But not so this year. What do you think? Is America's pastime losing it's place in our culture today?

I agree. I'm a huge Sox Fan (Red not White) and I couldn't get into it this year.

I was rooting for the Rays, but, only caught a few innings.

With all the negative press about US and the "all political all the time", I"M BURNED OUT!

Why watch baseball when there are REAL sports, like football, on TV?

Re: The World Series . . .

Not a fan of either team, but starting the games at 8:35 pm east coast time (including a rain delay that pushed one game start back to past 10 o'clock!) sure didn't help... Only east coast cities that drew a halfway decent TV audience were Philly and Tampa/St. Pete!

Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox or Giants would have made the series more interesting (yes, a blatant plug by a forlorn Giants fan).

Re: The World Series . . .

TV sports, like TV anything, has been dillute by 200+ channels, by the Internet you are watching now, by the the cell phones you can play with video games, and lots of things.

But even with all of that, I bet the the TV guys nearly had a coronary when the fount two east coast teams from mid level markets in it. The combined home audience would not be that great if everybody in those two markets tuned in.

I only saw a bout half an hour - of two teams playing in rain so hard that puddles formed on the base path. Phillie should have won it when the game should have been called because of rain two days earlier than the did, but what can you do with the comish in the stands.

Re: The World Series . . .

We owe a BIG thanks to Congress jumping on the evils of baseball that were threatening to sink our country. Watching them jumping in and cleaning out baseball renewed in my faith in Congress.

Could it be that the cleaned up baseball is less exciting?

Been wondering when they will clean up Pro Wrestling? WWF might need a bail out?

Hell, I'd be happy if they jumped in and cleaned up Congress.

Joe, I'm glad to find we can agree on SOMETHING, even it it's just on the baseball team we support.
Go Sox.
I think the WS drew so little attention because at least one of the teams was not from a big media market. And both have been fairly unseen for quite awhile, i.e., no one really knew these teams. That said, I'm glad the Phillies won.

Glad the Phillies won as well just because one of the truly great guys in sports plays for them. Check out what Jamie Moyer has done & continues to do for kids in Seattle & Philly. Never seeks the spotlight, but uses his fame for the greater good of the sick & forgotten children in many communities. He donates his money & time to some good causes.
