Redistribution of wealth

I stumbled into this:

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money."

I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept.

He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside.

The server angrily stormed from my sight and muttered "kiss my ass" under his breath.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed the money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Think about it people.

Re: Redistribution of wealth

I usually avoid trolls, but your flagrant quote from some other site needs a response.
Redistribution of wealth as you put it, is no more than reusing taxes for people.
It is not as bad as you think.
As an example you already use this at a certain level right now.
Your education is paid through taxes and your children go to school for free. Some people can pay for their children's education, so why should they pay for other peoples? Do you see this level of socialism as a bad thing?
Canada and most of Europe has free education but also medical services in the same manner. It's not perfect, but no one dies from an injury if they cannot pay for the medical treatment. Just walk in and get the help you need. No questions except providing your medical card which all get for free.
Do you regard the way your education system is offered as wrong or scary or against the American way?

That "other site" could have very well have been bmwlt.com (even though it wasn't). Checkout the 6th post IN THIS THREAD. The big difference was that Ted posted it in the Humor Forum where it really belongs.

Actually, I prefer the 7th post in that thread.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Yes!

And YES!
Again. If the social mecicine programs are so wonderful WHY are there hundreds/thousands of people coming to America each year for treatment?
I've been in socialist countries and seen how their "system" works...in a word, SUCKS. "Value added tax" on just about everything that costs more than a loaf of bread, gas prices that triple our own, mediocre health care...need I go on?
I'll keep my money and decide where I want to spend it, not the govt, thank you so very much.

Re: Redistribution of wealth

It's not the socialized medicine programs that are at fault there. It's simple greed. The money that's collected in all these extra taxes simply never makes it to the places that need it most.

No hospital can run well if it's completely underfunded. Or any other institution, for that matter. Why do you think our schools are in so much trouble? When someone who dedicates their lives to teaching our children is making crap wages, and there's no money for the most basic of sports programs, music programs, field trips, or even books and supplies, it's bound to all fall apart.

Same thing with socialized medicine. Doctors making next to nothing, supplies always running short, not enough beds & bandages to go around, etc. We're getting that way fast enough here in the States. If you don't have an employer-sponsored health plan, then you're simply out of luck. And even then, you really only can get the care that you can afford.
