Open Office 3.0 is out

Open Office 3.0 is out and it is a BIG update.

While there were still some on the fence prior to this release if an open source and FREE product could be as good or better (and cheaper) than it commercial counterpart, with OO 3.0 this could change.

Granted there will always be the ones that need and want to spend money for the same product, but for the rest of us: Give OO a whirl and see if it can work for you. The worst you have to loose is that you decide the software is not working for you in a way you wanted it.

the best that can happen is that you saved yourself from spending $300+

Thumbs up Re: Open Office 3.0 is out

Cool. I personally use MS Office (for a multitude of reasons), but we use OO at the elementary and intermediate grade levels to help out the bottom line. Obviously, the savings is quite significant. Even with our educational discounts.

Re: Open Office 3.0 is out

I bought a new laptop a few month ago. On Andy's advise I skipped buying MS office and downloaded OO. I love it! Easy to create PDF and seems generally easier to use. I searched the web about it and read all kinds of opinions about shortfalls. I have not had one problem sofar. I have generated documents and e-mailed them to my office machine with an older version of office. Opened and edited them, send them to my MAC at home, did more editing, and back to the office. No problems.

And you can't beat the price. What motivates them to give it away?

Re: Open Office 3.0 is out

I've been using OO on my Mac (the NeoOffice port). I like it much better than the apple office package which I tried, and it does well with opening/saving WORD files. Definitely a good package.

So, does it run as is on a Mac, or do I still need NeoOffice?

I have not tried it yet, but supposedly there is a native MAC port, even though the controls are not Aqua controls.
