I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

So I was watching the debate last night and what did my virgin ears hear? McSenile says something like the following: "I will direct my treasury secretary to buy up all the bad home loans and they will be refinanced at the home's diminished value."

WTF?! Now McSenile is trying to out socialist "THE Messiah?!" I've met several members of the communist party that are to the right of "THE Messiah." We're talking one of the most liberal politicians ever!

I guess anybody that actually tries to out socialist "THE Messiah" really is a maverick, after all!

My home value dropped 30%, you think they'll take some off the top of my principal so I can recoup that equity?

I'm down $100k and $200k, respectively. BUT that was off INFLATED, unrealistic, high values, also. So, hardly unexpected.

But, yeah, if I'm understanding McSenile right, if you're upside down, you're good to go! I just love this socialist maverick shit!

I couldn't believe it either. Major new (Socialist) idea and barely a mention by the Moderator. I had to ask my "Obama-Mama" and she couldn't believe it either. Looks like I should have bought a bigger house!

Turns out he's trying to divert 300B from the Bailout. Rather than giving to banks to invest, he's going after the main street guys. Political tactic for sure, who knows if it will work?

Just to be safe, every morning I'm saying President Barack Hussein Obama 20 times. My doctor says over a week or two; I should be able to get off my anti-nausea medicine

Looks like Wall Street is already adjusting for the tax increases coming their way. God help us.

Roger THAT! I bought a house I could afford and took out a “smart” loan (2 payments a month) so that I could pay it off in 12.5 years instead of 30. Now I see that this was all wrong. I should have bought a much more expensive house that I couldn’t afford so that the government (i.e. taxpayers) could pay for my foolishness. This Is BULL SHIT. Those MFers in Washington need to be voted out. I’m voting for Ralph Nader, so that I can sit back and bitch for the next 4 years.

Re: I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

I doubt many of you are heavily involved with eBay like having an eBay store,
so you may not be familiar with Meg Whitman who McCain would like to have as his Treasury Secretary like he mentioned on the debate the other night.
Ms. Whitman was CEO of eBay ( still on the payroll) and many including myself feel she single handily destroyed the ability to make a profit on eBay. There's a discussion going on right now on the eBay community store board where people are just about ready to throw up over McCain's mentioning of her name.....he lost a good many small business owner votes right there.

I've always loved politics going back to when I was a small boy and Barry Goldwater ,who I supported by the way. But I gotta say the McCain's campaign is headed down the wrong path, I could do a better job myself then his campaign manager Rick Davis. If they continue down the path they apparently have chosen this contest will not even be close.

The election was his to win three weeks ago. All he had to do was stand up and call Bullshit on the bailout. That's it. Maverick? More like Goose. For God's sake 90% of the public hated the idea. Did they completely miss that? They could have back burnered every other talking point, and waltzed into the White House. From what I've seen, every step the McCain campaign has taken lately is backwards and they are talking themselves right out of the oval office.

The game changed a couple weeks ago and in all fairness, neither one of these clowns has caught on. Still regurgitating the same tired half truths. Still dwelling on the past (Hey Obama, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW WE GOT INTO IRAQ ANYMORE!), and avoiding specifics on solving the real problems.

I don't want to hear about Obama playing cards with a domestic terrorist 20 years ago, or if McCain has anger issues (can you blame him, really?), or if Palin's daughter is pregnant. I want to hear who's going to jail over this Wall Street mess.

Re: I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

Well said Joe.

The country is in serious trouble and so is the world economy. I don't know what will fix it but I am pertty sure that buying down mortgages will not help much.

Think of the problems implementing such a plan. 1 in 6 homeowners are underwater. Do we try to seperate the good guys from the speculators?

How would another $300 billion of debt spent to plug a hole in the boat help the economy? When it was spent the taxpayers would have nothing to show for the money.

This problem needs serious thought by people who know what they are doing. It does need stimulus but why does helping underwater homeowners trump building inforstructure or adding troups in Afiganstan ect?

This grandstanding doesn't help solve the problems.

If not running for office, at least get into the speech writing or the talking head business. I find myself agreeing with most your political and social comments. I am just not as eloquent, otherwise I would post much of the same.
The bailout is a huge step toward western european style socialism. I am surprised that our friend Paaloo from Norway has not commented positively on it.

Also, I really don't appreciate calling McCain "McSenile". If you agree with him or not, he is a remarkable person, and his service to this country is real. Not like a lot of other politicians whos claim to fame are speeches and fund raisers. What I have seen of him is anything but senile. I know I am from a different generation and background, but I find it offensive when Obama calls him John. He, and most anybody else should address him with his title and with Sir, he has certainly earned it.

Re: I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

It's a plot to get the American people used to Socialism. It's a conditioning of the sheep to get used to, and depend heavily on, Big Brother.

I busted my ass for years and was gone at least three days a week doing it. In the process we bought land - paid for it. Installed the well and cistern- paid for it. Paid for 60% of the house outright. Our house payment is less than you can rent an apartment for- well- if I didn't make double and triple principle payments. I'm putting it on the market tomorrow and buying a steenkeen mansion using an ARM knowing that I am secure in the arms of my government.

The American Government doesn't want, nor is training, folks to be indepent. Look at the children, their education and video games/TV.

We WILL wake up one day assimilated.

Re: I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

Very well put, Grif!

What I want to know is where was the bailout back in the 80's when the oil industry was in the can, banks were failing, and people were walking away from there homes in the dead of the night? Hell, I lost $40K when I had to sell my house and move so I could find a job. Where was Big Brother then?

I say we start a grass roots movement to get Ron Paul on the ticket. He's the only one I've heard that makes any sense at all. Wait..........that's exactly why he lost the primaries, isn't it?

I agree with you as just about everyone deserves a certain amount of respect, however Mr McCain referred to Mr. Obama as "that one" the other night. McCain rarely addresses Obama at all and more rarely even looks at the man when Obama is speaking. He seams to avoid all eye contact with him. As for Obama to call McCain John what's wrong with that? Their both colleagues in the Senate and as colleagues its common to use each others first name. It's remarkable how you don't address the poster who always uses Messiah in his reference to Obama. Respect is a two way street my friend.

Agreed, that is equally inappropiate.

Part of living in a civilized society is that we are civil toward eachother. Especially public servants. And that is what our elected officials are. If we as voters would hold them to a higher standard, they would have no choice but to comply or get fired. At this point, the vast majority of our public servants should get fired, and many should be investigated without the usual public and political spectacal and get prosecuted. Some of them make the Enron Management look like petty thieves.

Yes, based on the latest news of some 1500 layoffs, it would appear that Ebay is in a bit of trouble. I would ask why a site like ebay even needs 1500 people to begin with? More fat-cattin' on the shareholder's dime?

Thank you, Dave! You have just nailed the jist of my thread. Instead of McSenile leading us down the road to hell with a huge government take over of the economy--making us even bigger bitches of an ever expanding government--why not be a real maverick and oppose it?! Start the investigations/prosecutions of all the fat-catters that should be going to jail for fraud and talk about what needs to be done so this shit CAN NEVER happen again. That would be leadership!

Here's what I think McCain is doing...

Throwing the Election! I believe that he has woken up and realized "who the hell wants this job right now with the mess that everything is in?"

You see...he doesn't have to worry about the liberal, kool-aid drinking, idol worshipers voting for him (hope I didn't offend anybody there).

So now he has to alienate the moderate conservatives who are still considering voting for him to ensure he doesn't get their votes either.
What better way to ditch those votes then to roll out socialist policies.

Whoever gets the presidency is screwed. It's going to be good to see Obama and the democrats fall on their butts.

This is like a magic act; both parties want you distracted so that you don't notice how corrupt Congress is.

If you remember, Congress passed a bill that the President signed. The President didn't create a bill the Congress signed.

The reason why the President can't line out "riders", ear marks and PORK is because Congress won't give up their corruption.

I had joked months ago that these two (more disrespect ) will try to out liberal each other. "I'm the bigger socialist--no, I am!" But this is taking it to a new level.

I'm surprised no one has yet pointed out that Biden suggested the same thing the previous week during the VP debate. Not that it was a new idea then or anything, just thought it would be worth mentioning... how "maverick" is it to cop ideas from your opponents plan?

Re: I guess McSenile really is a maverick!

McCain changed the plan again yesterday. The currant version is to have the government spend $300 billion to buy mortgage loans from banks.

That would certainly help the banks.

Homeowners who are underwater would get no help. A change in lenders doesn't do anything. Homeowners whos loans are not held by banks (by far the majority would see no help).

Taxpayers would have no chance to recope the investment.

$300 billion is a lot of money to give to banks.

If they just gave it to us, we could prolly do more with it than saving a few, crummy banks.

Great idea, but it can only be accomplished in a multiparty system. Sadly our political parties offer no choice except the status quo christian conservative rhetoric. Let's face it we have evolved into a theocratic, elite dictatorship. Socialism in this model will only benefit the few at the top.

Jay,

I agree, but I doubt it will affect the elite governing class . When are Americans going to wake up and realize the USA is not an egalitarian society? Sadly, most Americans have been castrated by consumerism and confused by insincere , Democratic, theocratic do gooder principles. It is time to wake up and realize that we are an imperialist state that has robbed the rest of the world.
