Oh Jeff, you just don't understand at all. This was all the schools fault don't you know. The parents aren't to be blamed.

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

Yah, I saw this earlier on the news and its just about the strangest thing I have ever seen. Who would have thought that a group reaction to economic downturn would be pregnancy. How little I understand my fellow earthlings.

As to the where were the parents, my guess is that just over 30% were single parents and working at least one job. Most of the others were likely both working, but even if they were not, how long do you suppose it takes to concceive a child with a 24 year old homeless man?

Is there anybody other than that imbecile in Austria who imprisoned his daughter and his other spawn in a basement that knows where a 16 year old is every minute of the day?

My guess is that most of the parents were working hard trying to raise kids in a really tough economy, pretty much like most parents are. Luckly, most parent don't get news like this.

Come to think of it, there are probably a log in town that did not.

Its just another sad news story

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

Public school sex education fails again. I watched CNN tonight and the Administrator said, "We don't have enough money for sex education in all grades..." Of course, that's the problem, they do a pitiful job so they need to be rewarded with MORE money.

Then I noticed that they said they have a school nurse who gives FREE pregnancy tests and that over 150 had been given to those girls alone...many coming back time after time until they got a "positive" test. they have money for that????????

I am amazed that any school gives pregnancy tests!!! What in the world???? I want my kid to learn math, science, geography, etc. at school....let me teach them about sex and purity. Gee whiz!!!

I am also amazed that this happened in Massachusetts - I thought the liberal approach to sex ed was so far advanced above our outdated, victorian principles of abstinence and purity.

+1, Jack... All you can eat pregnancy test buffet, and the school can't call the parents, which would have violated the girls' "privacy rights".

Actually, it appears they were pretty well educated in sex...What they need is birth control classes...or maybe manditory IUD's for them once they hit 15 (they last 5 years).

Actually I had heard that in a lot of schools the parents didn't want the school teaching their kids about sex, so sex ed was done away with. And obviously the parents aren't teaching them either.

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

Wonder how many regret following through with the PACT to get pregnant? A newborn babe can be a PITA, 2 am feedings and dirty diapers. Oh yeah real fun! Not to mention 21+ years of support, It is obvious they didn't have a clue! Talk about peer pressure.

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

Mandatory viewing for 16 year old girls wanting to become pregnant:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nojWJ6-XmeQ

It's crap like the movie Juno that has romanticized teen pregnancy, a zero parental responsibility mindset, and the lack of "common sense" sex education in the schools that fosters the kind of thinking in these girls' heads.

Anyone who thinks kids are more likely to have sex because of sex education is delusional. Some will kids choose not to, but the reality is that kids are going to have sex. The difference is that maybe, just maybe, a different set of choices will be made when armed with knowledge than shackled in ignorance.

When I say "common sense" sex education, I'm sure most of you guys are old enough to remember the basic hygiene, disease, pregnancy, and responsibility components that made up the SexEd or Human Sexuality classes we had in school. Then again, some of you guys might remember "A Boy Grows Up" books and films you read on that one day all the girls went to a different room and Coach Smith came to "talk" with the boys.

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

I have my own "ignorant" views of how/why this sort of thing is happening... and will keep those to myself for the purpose of an "enlightened, progressive, open discussion...."

..... here's some cynical perspectives ...

Peer pressure... ? Chicks dig scars....?

So, how is their behavior that heinous?

Many here made "pacts" to :
- show up for rides....
- make good on Round Rock Donut delivery
- encourage fellow riders to RIDE to an RTE
- get back on the horse
- to attend CCR...

Some of us here even joined the military with a friend or friends.... or made lifelong commitments...

Why? "We all need someone to love..." Beatles, if I recall correctly.

Some of us "love" our bikes... or Round Rock Donuts... or nuts-n-twigs. It is our "freedom" of "choice", without responsibilities.

Seems to me, the "educational system" has achieved it's purpose in these examples of "choice".

Many here might be proud.... and snicker under their breath for the "success" of "freedom".

Congratulations!

Why be surprised ?

My family, my family of origin, my extended family .. and their families have had "out of wedlock" children... in fact, none of my brother's son's have "legitimate" kids. They will ONLY do what they "want"... "no one can tell me what to do".... yeah, ok... sure.... obviously they are making great choices... Yes, this only happens in MY family.

Look around and you can see there are "support" programs everywhere... So, why do we care?

There is no stigma.... it's all "FREE LOVE, BABY!!!... YEAH!!!"

It doesn't matter what you or I "think". There is no more "right" or "wrong".
It doesn't matter... that there is no more "bastards", whores, or SOB's.. etc.
It doesn't matter what someone does.... consequences are just another way to explain cause and effect by religion of science.

So, let's now have them make an "abortion pact".... that will respect their "freedom"... and complete the circle ...

...
You aint seen nuthin' yet.

Congratulations.

Well, Jack, uummmm, how do I say this politely....you're just so F'G old and out of touch! The purpose of our fine big government education system IS NOT to teach kids theoretical subjects such as math, science, geography, etc. In today's world, they need to learn the practical and important stuff--like how to milk the welfare system! What better way to milk it than wank out a baby?!

Now, there are a lot of "benefits" to be had from our ever expanding welfare system. So, we must start teaching these kids early and often. Obviously, that leaves no time for any of those theoretical subjects like math and science. Also, if you have a baby, you now have someone to always and unconditionally love you. And isn't life really all about your one big main feeling?!

So in closing, shame on you, sir, for thinking that you know better how to educate your own kids than the big government hacks! Let this be a lesson to you and don't let it happen again.

Great idea, Channing! If we could only go back in time and have the abortion....say about 16 years ago!?

What do you think parents (or I guess in this case it would grand parents) are for?

Re: Where are the freakin' parents

Here in the UK the housing departments at the local councils tell them "If you want a home in the next ten years, get pregnant"
