Lightning Strike

So Monday night a tree was hit by lightning in my yard. We suspect that it hit the Direct tv dish first and then went to the tree. If that is possible. Both Direct tv and my cable modem were fried due to the strike. Nothing else in house was damaged except it tripped a GFI outlet in the basement mounted on the same panel that the cable and dish stuff mounted. Here is the list of stuff that got fried:
Dish, Dented and LNBs
DVR
multi switch
Cable splitter
Cable modem
Wireless router.

I have attached pictures of the tree.

Re: Lightning Strike

Jim sorry to hear about your loss.
I had what we believe is a lightning strike last september.
Lost:
TV x 2
AVR receiver
Sub woofer
DVR
DVD player
lawn sprinkler controller
computer
wireless router
cable modem x 2

I had all of my electronic hooked up to a monster power conditioner and protector. I contacted monster and they required me to send in the unit for evaluation. Once they evaluated it and if they determine that it did have a failure then they would accept my claim. Now comes the fun part the money they would reimburse is fair market value not replacement value, and when it comes to electronics we know how they hold there value.

The $50000 component guarantee is not what it is all cracked up to be. By the way I am still dealing with them nine months later.

Re: Lightning Strike

Man I thought I was in bad shape. I ahve a few components on surge suppressors. The cable modem was on one but not the coax cable. I believe the surge came in on the coax cable. But I am not a lightning expert. It was pretty cool though. I thank god that the house "did not" get hit. I love thunderstorms, i love watching them. I have even been lucky to catch a few bolts on film.

Good luck with Monster.
