Re: 3000 mile oil changes

Yup! "Fact" long, long, ago. I could never get anyone to explain why I should change my oil every 3k miles. I've always gone at least 10k.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Some really OLD friggin' White dude who couldn't have possibly known what he was talking about!) WARNING: Official HATE speech!

Re: 3000 mile oil changes

The biggest issue with motoroil is dirt! So if your oil is clean it can last longer than recomended changes. With large diesels, they hold 100 gallons of oil in the sump, the oil is going through a very intricate filter system, with several filters inline, with a centrifuge in the system. Oil is tested on a monthly basis, and as long as the test are good, the oil is used. We usually changed oil once a year. Tis is an engine that runs nearly 24 hours a day for weeks at a time. You dont have to stop the engine to check oil level.
