Man flies - holy ****, he did it!

Swiss professional pilot Yves Rossy, the world's first man to fly with fitted jet fuel powered wings strapped to his back, flies during his first official demonstration, on May 14, 2008 above Bex. Calling himself "FusionMan," Rossy realeased himself froma plane at altitude of 2,438 meters (8,000 feet) and completed several loops at a speed of 300 km/h using only his body to change position during his five-minute flight over the Swiss Alps.

Steering only with his body, Rossy dived, turned and soared again, flying what appeared to be effortless loops from one side of the Rhone valley to the other. At times he rose 2,600 feet before descending again.

"It's like a second skin," he later told reporters. "If I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right."

Rossy then performed a stunt he had never before tried.

After one last wave to the crowd, the rocket man tipped his wings, flipped onto his back and leveled out again, executing a perfect 360-degree roll that even a bird would find impossible.

"That was to impress the girls," he later admitted.

He's 48 years old...

My prediction: we'll see this available commercially within five years, and I'm already on the wait list with a deposit. I'll guess I'll finally have to break down and buy that GPS after all. He can only do 185 mph at this time... and with only 8 minutes of fuel that gives him a range of 25 miles.

Looks like Wiley Coyote may actually CATCH the Road Runner.

I saw the video of that in the office breakroom, during lunch. Very, very cool. It really begins to approach man's dream of unfettered flying.

Screw the bike, I want one of those.

Anyone want to buy a lightly used GT? Preferably before these get popular and they start patrolling the sky?

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
