I thought it was just happening here!

It seems since Katrina, drivers here are quite distracted. I have had more near misses, since then than ever before! After reading Earnie's mishap it appears that it may be everywhere.

The last couple of days, people seem lost or confused, I had a vehicle in the left lane, a left turn lane, decide to go straight insted of turning, I was alongside at the time, sounding the horn caused them to stop until I passed. Today I had a driver pull into the turn lane, where there was no place to turn, had an indicator on, but it seemed the car was not going to stop, and turn into my path of travel.

There are more incidents that I could list. It may be just the times, but it causes me to stay awake and aware of whats going on around me. Even driving the car.

Is it that they are lost and confused or just increasingly rude and self-centered? I'm lost and confused all the time but I take the extra 5 minutes to go around the block or up to the next exit to correct the error. It seems like I'm increasingly seeing people unwilling to go out of their way to correct their own mistakes. Darting across lanes to get to an exit, right turns from the left lane and vice versa etc. Don't know if I can pin it on the weather. We've had our share of local events like the recent fires (nothing on the Katrina scale,) but I see this behavior as an increasing rate of a population of drivers that can't be inconvenienced by their own indecision. Harsh, I know, but that's what I see.
