Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Have you loaded the proper symbol file for your machine (either downloaded it or run it off the MS server)?

Also, are you getting the full dump, mini dump or the one in between?

Beyond that, the last one that I had was pretty clear at one point where it pointed directly at the problem .sys file (said something like, "likely problem is whatever.sys).

Yep I have loaded the symbol file for this machine and it is the mini dump.

Here is a small part ..and to the point i guess.

Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt! ?? ::FNODOBFM::`string'+34b4 )

Hope this fits...but here is the report.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Ug! That's looking like it's part of NT's kernel system.

Is this XP? And which flavor (pro, home, media center)?

Does your computer have dual processors? It appears that this program helps to somehow control them. However, you might be running into problems if you're running XP Home (from what I've gathered).

Next thing, have you recently installed any new software on your computer? It's a standard question, but lots of computers are really temperamental when drivers are incompatible.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Its ..Vista ultimate (no haters please)..running quad core @ 4.1 no new software or hardware been running this for about a year.
I was going to do a Mem test later tonite (run it all nite) and is if thats the problem but i dont think so. Memory is 4 gigs of DDR3.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Last suggestion before I hand it over to someone more qualified..

This site mentions an except from a MS page that states either problems with the BIOS or one of the processors is a possible problem.

Unfortunately, the guy with the post doesn't show an answer for it yet. However, it could help you rule things out. ??

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Nelson,
NTKRNLMP.EXE is a version of the Windows NT kernel that allows you to use more than one processor, including your quad core. It is installed during the original Windows setup process. (NTOSKRNL.EXE will get loaded instead of NTKRNLMP.EXE, if a single processor will be used.) Like Lost asked, have you installed any new software lately?

Upgrading your BIOS won't hurt anything, and occasionally it will correct this problem. (Microcode error in the BIOS)

Are you overclocking either the CPU or video card? That will do this.

Overheating issue in the CPU or motherboard? That too will cause this error.

Is this a 64 bit OS? Try taking out one stick of memory and test. Trust me on this... 4 gigs sometimes conflict with video cards on a 64 bit system.

Let us know...

Hi Hal...thanks for the advice. Yes I have overclocked the cpu but not the video card. Its been fine running at this speed for a long period. It is a 64 bit OS and I am running 2 sticks of Memory that total 4 gigs not sure if that make a diff instead of 4 sticks. My temps are in the mid 40c. and cpu is watercooled. I will try and see if upgrading the bios might fix this problem before i look deeper.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Don't know if you have found the issue yet but I have a system that is close to what you have with the quad processor and liquid cooled with 8 gig of ram.
Mine run fine for a while then started having issues like yours.
I'm running a Abit MB. I have overclocked the processor to about 3.5.
A few things that I have found that might help.
Run a fan on your North Bridge heat sink.
In the BIOS, bump you memory voltage to the max for the memory that you have.
In the BIOS, slow your FSB down a bit.

Once I changed the items above, I have not had any more issues.
I also took my memory off auto and locked it in.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Thanks for the reply...I did do the bios update a few days ago and so far so good no issues at all. When I go this motherboard it was brand new on the market so I am sure they had to work out a few bugs. I do also have my northbridge water cool. Keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Does anyone know how to read Dump files?

Overclocking is not all that bad.
Consider that the normal life of a processor is 8 or so years.
Overclocking will cut that life by 1/2.
Most people that overclock stay on the cutting edge of tech and have moved to a new MB and processor long before the overclocked processor hits the dust.
I went with a new high end MB when I built my system and it gave me some real fits but it's like owning the LT, it's really inspiriing to know you have the top of the line.

One other thing I did to stablize my system was to install a larger power supply. I am pulling a lot of power with my MB, 5 drives, 8gig of memory and a few other little goodies. I went all the way up to a 1200 watt power supply.
