Unhappy It's 2008, for crying out loud!!!

And we're still using fax machines???!!! Are you kidding me?! Today, I have to go install a "new" one. This is utterly ridiculous. I think I need another cup of coffee. A state-of-the-art Cisco VOIP phone system and I'm running a fax machine through it. Somebody shoot me!!!

Are you sure it's '08? The company that just bought us is still using Novell.

And faxes.

At the office we use fax machines on a daily basis That is while we listen to music from the 8-track player.

Today, I have to go install a "new" one. This is utterly ridiculous. I think I need another cup of coffee.

Joe perhaps you should cut back on the coffee

Hey! Wait a minute! We use Novell. And quite frankly, I like it.

I've recently talked with other school districts that tried to move to Active Directory and they said it couldn't handle the load. Sounds like crap to me ... but I'm just telling you what I heard. What are the maximum connections AD can handle?

Re: It's 2008, for crying out loud!!!

Novell is still a great product, and NDS and eDirectory are way way ahead of Microsoft's AD.
With that said AD can support hundreds of thousands of objects, and probably more with the release of 2008 Server. It is possible that the school district has some low speed links that are the bottleneck, otherwise I agree with you that their excuse is a bowl of crap

Re: It's 2008, for crying out loud!!!

We moved our newspaper to a new facility in January. 300+ VOIP phones. We did not move any FAX machines. All of the outside lines were setup as fax capable and tied to the email systems. I just installed fax machine number 5 yesterday. No one seems to be able to figure out the meaning of the fax folder in their email client
Oh yeah, we had to put in 90 analog phone lines , 5 of them to support the Avaya VOIP system
Yeah we use Novell Groupwise, runs like a champ and no attacks!
350 users on AD.
90 Macs, on AD!
Citrix and bunch of other crap.
Maybe I won't go in today, it's not raining very hard and the LT has a full tank...

About 27, but if your using Exchange 2007 don't have any more than 11 mailboxes or the EDB file becomes corrupt about every 6 months. I much prefer Lotus Notes, ran that system for 5 years without so much as a fart, but this AD and Exchange stuff just keeps crappin all over the place, and now we have SharePoint, aka SharePig, because the permissions are another piece of crap, and it intergrates very well with AD and Exchange....NOT! delete a user in AD, and then go delete them again in SharePig.

Just gonna pour myself a Beer, who know which one.

Re: It's 2008, for crying out loud!!!

I have one client who insists on faxing me orders. Hand written.
I have email and a website. Nope hand written orders.
At least he sends orders.
