Grow up.

So a lot of members are tired of Tim Vipond pushing his oil. I have seen a few of his posts and he has given more info on oil specs and the like then any other members in those threads. If you don't like what you see ignore it. That is a sign of maturity. I would like to see a poll of the members who are in favor of the banning of Tim and who are against. Hey I am a new member and all, and I appreciate the great amount of help and info that comes from the site. I also believe in the Democratic way.

Re: Grow up.

I believe in the democratic way as well. This site is not a democracy, though; people seem to forget that. I for one am happy to see him gone, IMHO he added no value and was annoying as hell with all the hype and crap on his oil products. I think the admins did everything possible over a very long time to try and work with the guy and keep him in line, and he kept pushing the boundaries, not adhereing to site guidelines, and became a complete PITA. Good riddance in my book.

Re: Grow up.

I agree, the guy was blatant. He'd start an innocent looking post, such as "Bike no longer smokes when parked on side stand"...

Then about 1/2 way through say he had tried a bunch of different oils, including several synthetics...

And "miracle of miracles", it stopped when he switched to A*s*il (and always in upper case). He'd go on to mention A*s*il about 10 more times, (in upper case) throughout the remainder of the thread.

Just ONE example. Of course, he wouldn't mention in his threads that he was a dealer, so it would like like a true testimonial...

Re: Grow up.

It did not appear (to me) that he pushed the oil very hard in this thread and really gave a wealth of info on the subject at hand.

Re: Grow up.

And, being a new member, you don't realize how many years he's been at it. He was offered the chance to become a vendor and absolutley spammed the site.

If an oil dealer is allowed to continuously push his product why can't any other dealer do it under the pretext of giving "good" info.

To put it another way, how about a Muslim, Christian, Budhist, etc. pushing their religion? Not everyone is wanting that information over and over and over and over again thru the years, no matter how innocently it has been done.

OU812, there are plenty of sites to get oil info if you're missing it. As for me, I've seen many thousands of oil threads over the last 8 years and the one's by Tim make me want to throw up. ***oil isn't magic, it's just oil, for cryeye.

BTW folks, now he's spamming the k-bikes with his garbage and he doesn't even own an S, GT, etc.

Make no mistake, I'm into, and understand, the concept of making money. I'm not into multi level marketing, or pyramid schemes. I'm not into him pushing his product at our expense.

I must say you offered him the chance to vendor up and he turned it down, that is HIS bad.

Worse. He had his own oil forum and continued to SPAM the rest of the forums worse than ever before. I say good riddance and this site will be a lot better off with out all the oil MISinformation...

Actually he did 'vendor up' and still failed to refrain from commercial postings within the general forums. We refunded his money and removed his vendor forum after he failed to play within the rules, even after repeated warnings.

He has had many, many warnings about using these forums to conduct business and has proven to be totally incapable of following the rules. While some might believe he provided a 'wealth of information', the majority of the time it was regurgitating information that was designed to present his product in a positive light. While the information may or may not have been accurate, it was most certainly presented to promote his products.

We authored a set of site guidelines that have served us quite well at keeping our community one of the best on the Internet. Among the guidelines is this:

No Commercial Postings: This is a private BBS designated for the use of its members. No commercial posts of any kind will be allowed. “For Sale” items from individual members will be allowed in the Classified forum only. Special announcements for dealers or other vendors will be allowed only if they are made by one of the forum Moderators or Administrators. Any posts to any forum that are deemed to be of a commercial nature will be subject to removal and the identity posting them may be blocked or banned.

Our rationale is simple - we do not want these forums to become an avenue for promotion of any brand or product. Nor do we want to let any individual member continually promote his business within these forums. We certainly gave Tim far too much latitude in this area. One of the Administrators even gave Tim's favorite brand name a 'time out', but as soon as we restored the usage of that word, Tim immediately began promoting it in his posts. We are going to try to be a little more aggressive at enforcing this rule, so as to be fair to our members and our supporting vendors and dealers and to make it perfectly clear we are not singling out any individual. We don't care if brand names are mentioned or even promoted by members, but as soon as we feel like a member is 'hawking' a particular brand or promoting it for personal gain, we will enforce the stated site guideline.

Re: Grow up.

I am going to send one of "his" oil filters to a good friend of mine that does very good cut up/studies of filters for the BMW bikes. Will it be OK for me to post results good or bad? I don't want to end up with a "time out" or worse. I like it here.

Re: Grow up.

Never grow up. I won't.(in spite of my wife's constant requests) I guess guys like Tim just don't bother me as much. Since I am new here and have not seen his posts for so many years, I have not got burned out on him yet.
This is THE site for LT owners and I am glad to be here. Thanks for letting me stay in spite of my shortcomings.

We love information as long as it isn't incessant and doesn't appear to be self serving.

I really wish someone could show us where the actual life of an engine was improved or diminished by the use of one brand of oil or filter over another. I truly believe that if you change your oil and filter at the recommended intervals and use good quality oil and filters, you are very unlikely to ever see a failure in your engine that wouldn't have occurred with any other brand of oil and filter.

Mine always get BMW branded oil and filters, because the dealer I buy my bikes from provides oil and filters for all scheduled maintenance at no charge when you buy a bike from them.

Yes, Randy, your point would seem consistent with my experiences over the years (full synthetics)--even for us CHEAP BASTARDS that don't change our oil at even close to "recommended" intervals.
