Sometimes Life Just Jumps Up And Bites You In The Ass

Following is a GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS account of my last week;

GOOD NEWS-TUE AM; Left home a 6:00am to teach an MSF class, all went well, great class

BAD NEWS- Arrived home at 3:00pm and found wife in a total state of confusion with serious memory loss. Got her to ER, assuming a stroke, where she was admitted to hospital and underwent exhaustive testing for the next 6 days.

GOOD NEWS- Brought her home yesterday none the worse for wear. Memory is 98% restored and all the testing showed no long term damage. She's pretty much as good as new. They called it a mini stroke and and have no idea what caused it!

GOOD NEWS- The Olympia riding pants that I ordered from the BMW STEALER in Daytona came in. So This morning, with the wife holding her own, I jumped on the GS and headed for Daytona to pick up my new riding pants.

BAD NEWS- about 30 miles from Daytona on US 92 at around 70 mph I heard a FLOP,FLOP from the back of the bike. Sure enough my brand new (about 500 miles ago) rear Metzler was going flat.

GOOD NEWS- I was able to get the beast safely off the road and keep the rubber side down and my Allstate Road Side Assistance arrived on the scene and took me and the bike to Daytona.

GOOD NEWS- Service took me right in and mounted a new tire while I was in the store checking the fit of my new pants.

BAD NEWS- The old tire was toast and the new one was only $250!

BAD NEWS- About 10 miles out of Daytona on the way home it started to rain like the hammers of hell and my rain gear was out of harms way safely packed on my LT back home in the garage.

GOOD NEWS- It only rained for about 5 miles and I dried off before I got home.

I guess overall it was actually a pretty good week. The wife survived her ordeal with no short or long term problems and I survived a flat at speed and didn't crash.

Hearing that Janet is pretty much OK, is good news. All the rest is just ... news.

Have you considered the possibility that putting up with YOU led to her memory loss ???

Say "hi" to Janet for us. "Hi" to you, too.

The second "Good News" line is the important one! As someone else said, the rest is just news. Sure glad that one turned out OK! If that had not turned out so good, the rest would not have mattered at all.

Happy for you and Janet. My wife's name is Janet also, sure don't know how I would get by without her!

Lynn glad to hear that all seems to have worked out.

I can only hope for your sake the 2% memory loss you mentioned is of things you have done wrong

I know wishful thinking.

Thanks for all the well wishes.
And Bret, unfortunately your gona have to find someone else to kick around. As much as it pains me, under the circumstances it's probably best that she not travel for awhile and so I canceled our reservation at Iron Horse. While I'm upset about missing STC, all this "BAD NEWS" pales when I consider how lucky we are that this illness did not result in something much more serious. We see the Dr next week and if he gives her a clean bill of health I may throw my leg and a tent over the saddle and run up for a couple of days. Just have to wait and see.

Cheers

Lynn, Did the Doc's mention a TIA with Janet's condition? If so did they prescribe "Plavix" or other blood thinner?

That usualy is the condition for "mini stroke".

Yes, TIA was the conclusion. The recommendation was, "Take and Aspirin a day and call me in 2 weeks!" Apparently, at this point they did not believe the situation warranted a prescription drug.

Had a TIA or 2 back in 2000. First one had me speaking gibberish. Second one was more of a stroke as I lost some hearing. Regained most after a regimen of steroids. Doc put me on aspirin therapy.
