I found my LT...again

In November I traded in my LT for a FJR at my Santa Teresa, NM Yamaha dealer.

Right about the first of the year, much to my surprise, they sold it. A few weeks later, while at the dealership visiting with the sales staff, I met the man who bought it. He and his wife just happened to ride up on my old LT while I was there. He stopped in just for kicks, as I had. The new owner wasn't very friendly with me and I thought that odd. His wife was quite talkative and said the LOVED the LT. If I'd bought a used bike from a dealer and met the former owner I'd be all over him for a complete history...or at least ask for a contact in case I had questions.

Fast forward to today. Wife and I ride up to Las Cruces, NM (40 mi) on the FJR and decide to stop by the Honda dealer. We ride up and sitting in the Used Bike Lineup is my 2000 Basalt LT (same stickers and mods). He kept the bike just about 2 months and put only 1400 mi on it. I wonder if no dealer within 4 hours drive had anything to do with him ditching it ? (that was my only reason)

Re: I found my LT...again

Tom did the dealer have any insight as to why the bike was traded in?
In addition, wow it is a wild coincidence to see your old bike twice in such a short time.

Re: I found my LT...again

I think the idea relating the trade in to no dealer close could have a lot of merit. I don't relish the idea of riding 4 hours either, although I have to admit I am slightly closer - only 3 hours...

Re: I found my LT...again

Some guys just have to have the biggest and best, regardless of reality. Then they get it and discover it's not what they wanted, or what they can handle. There are a lot of garage queen LTs out there, all farkled up with low miles and only a slight scuff or two on the tip over bars.

Or maybe he went in to buy an S, and she sat on an LT. That might do it as well.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: I found my LT...again

I never asked the salesman what the story was on the trade-in.
Probably because it was his first week and he told me it was already
on the lot when he started working there. I never told them it was
my old bike.

However...the newbie salesman did tell me some funny things.

First, that it is a 2004 (it's really a 2000) he later corrected without me prompting him.
Also that it had 100,000 mi on it and that high mileage is good for that motor...he later
corrected himself and gave me the correct mileage...just over 40,000 mi.
