A funny thing happened on the way back from Big Bend

The weather started cooling off a bit, so I decided to pull into the next reststop I ran across to put my liner back in. Just outside of Bandera, I found a nice little rest area up on a ridge that I dove into. As I pull in, I see 4 Harleys parked and think, do I really want to stop here? The guys didn't seem all that threatening, except one old codger with long gray hair and bushy beard and missing teeth. The other three looked like the new generation of Harley riders.

I stop, pull off my helmet, gloves and remove my earplugs. One of the "nice" ones nods and says "hi", and I acknowledge him and start to open my trunk. he approachs my GT and I think, "here it comes. Time for the bike bashing." He asks how I like the BMW to which I reply I really love it. he starts really looking over the bike and his friends start to mosey over. Ok, now I'm getting nervous. I'm alone. The restarea is secluded. And there's 4 Harley dudes. Next thing I know they're all gawking over the GT, saying how it was and how great the craftsmanship was. And then came the shock: One of says, yeah, we were just sitting here talking about how crappy these Harleys are. I spent the next 15 - 20 minutes listening them how say how the Harley build quality was junk and how crappy Harley was. They were going on about how their Harley jackets and accesories were all made in China. I commented on how much chrome there was on one of them, and the owner says, yeah. look real close...it says made in China! It was absolutely hilarious!

When I left, they were still talking about how crappy their bikes were. It was a classic moment for me. I never thought I'd hear a group of Harley dudes talk about how bad their image bikes were.

I guess it can be a downer for any biker to realize what your hard earned cash actually bought you, regardless of brand...
I bet those who experienced FD failures probably felt that way at some point.
It would be intereting to see one's reaction when finding out the $120.00 BMW cup-holder is made in China!!!

Why would you fear 4 bikers in a rest area?

That's what I was wondering?

Never met a motorcycle rider yet that I was in fear of. Did meet a HA one time that looked like he ate nails for breakfast, after getting to know him better, he turned out to be a real good person, not one to trifle with but a down to earth good guy.

Because it gives you an excuse to remain well armed.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
