20 grand & 2K miles don't make you a biker

Re: HD Sportster Motocross?

Back in '75 three of us got together to race a sportster in the Baja. We even had a couple of sponsors lined up. We practiced in desert around Yuma, AZ, dry lake beds, etc. It was fun but they sporty didn't hold up, too many bent rims, forks, tore off exhaust systems. We ran out of money before we ran out of enthusiasm. It was fun running it across the desert, most of the time.

Looking back at it, probably good it turned out like it did cause that thing was way too heavy for that kind of riding, would probably gotten us hurt if we had continued with those antics. It wasn't bad on sand, like a lake bed if you got it going fast enough to get up on top of the sand.

Re: HD Sportster Motocross?

I had a '74 XLCH with knobbies and low gearing, rode it all the time off road. What did I know at a young age...
