Interesting Perspective on Deal's Gap

Thought this was interesting. I posted a map and a link to William's page to a list of friends, some of them guys I ride with, mostly just old friends I exchange emails with via the list:

And one of those friends who happens to be a nurse in Tennessee and a local reader of headlines replied to the list at large:

Just a couple of miles up the road from where I live. I can give a place to stay to any who want to make the ride. I also know the paramedics who will be picking you up off the road and flyingyou into Knoxville.

I can escort your family to the hospital from my house.
Most any weekend you can buy a "slightly damaged" bike real cheap. Riders sell them before they ever are disscharged from the hospital.
Y'all are all welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Interesting Perspective on Deal's Gap

Ready Fire Aim ...... seems she has an attitude for riders and unfortunately has been on the receiving end of a few accidents. I can understand where she is coming from and can only try to set a good example. In the Tampa area, it is rare that a weekend goes by without a motorcycle fatality. Those in the health care business only see the bad side. It is understandable.

When you take the time to really understand what is going on, a truer picture evolves, but hers is simply a quick reaction...

Re: Deal's Gap sucks!

A few years ago (I don't remember the year) there was an RA rally held just up the road from Deals Gap, the police set up a command post nearby with helicopters and a lot of personel,
it was the talk of the rally, almost all negative and directed at the police,

on the flip side of the issue, nobody died there that weekend, had they not been there in force I'm almost certain there would have been several fatalities.

Now there's some guys that ride that piece of road almost every weekend and they're really good, they're not the ones that get hurt (usually)

it's the "not so good" riders that are drawn to the "hype" that exceed their abilities trying to keep up.

It's all a lot of BS to me there are better roads all around that overated stretch which attracts way too many @ssholes.

Me thinks Andrea doesn't care too much for the motorized cycles!

She does make a point though; to those who ride above their ability.

I agree with you 100% on both accounts.
I just booked 2 nights there for July and I cannot wait to ride the BPR and Skyline dr. top to bottom.

Take it easy or you might end up taking the fast route down. You don't get to see too much going that route!
