Just a kiss...

Buying your girl any Valentine's Day gift is one of the lamest things you can do. And my wife happens to agree! Nothing like being told to be romantic. That's utterly ridiculous.

Of course, it's important that one knows their mate. If your mate expects (demands?) something on VD, I suppose you best deliver. Or ELSE!!!

My wife appreciates it much more when I do special things on 'just another ordinary day'. And yes, my friends hate me for it.

So ... for all you rookies, go on with your badd selves. But as for me and mine, we know what works best for us. And we don't need Hallmark or American Greetings telling us what and/or when to do it.

Take care.

Re: What did you give the Mrs for Valentines?

After we both swore no more pets after losing both our Yellow Lab and our cat within 10 days of each other last Thanksgiving, we rescued an 18 month old German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix named Charlie. His previous owner was moving to an apartment and couldn't keep him after she had rescued him from the SPCA. He was our present to each other for Valentine's Day.

Re: What did you give the Mrs for Valentines?

We don't tend to get each other stuff. We'd rather just plan to spend the day together doing something special. This year it was a Styx concert and playing in the snow at the local mountains.

A couple of years ago it was swimming with dolphins at Sea World, which Dayle didn't know about until we reached the dolphin enclosure. Another friend was proud for having filled the house with balloons, until Dayle gushed about her great day to his wife. He just stared at me and said "thanks, man."

Well, Joe, after 41 years my bride still enjoys flowers! In fact, she says that she prefers them now rather than at her funeral.

So, this "rookie" buys roses (at least three dozen) for Valentines Day and various other flowers for other days in the year.

God bless:

Re: What did you give the Mrs for Valentines?

I bought my wife a puppy before I left for work a couple weeks ago. It's keeping her so busy that maybe she forgot that today is her birthday. I tried to attatch pictures of the puppy but, my African internet connection is not letting it happen.

Re: What did you give the Mrs for Valentines?

I outdid myself this Velentine's Day. Got my wife some super gifts, left them on the bed for her to find while I was at work.

First, I got her this huge butt-shaped box of chocolates. (Well, some people say it's a heart-shaped box, but pshaw. And I put a note inside saying, "Don't you dare eat this, that's just the kind of thing that got you into trouble. I'll eat them later, if it will help."

Everyone needs encouragement, and maybe it's not much, but it is something I can do for her. It's the little things that make the difference. And I figure, while I'm eating the chocolate, it will remind her of my love.

Then I got her flowers, but not that overused, "A Dozen Red Roses." How lame would that have been? Sheesh! Nope, I got very creative...drumroll, please...I got her just a single black rose. Whoa...got to admit, that was a stroke of dramatic genius on my part, original and unique. Pretty clever, huh? Anyone can get a dozen roses at Walmart. I thought of this all on my own.

Next I bought her some workout leotards, but get this...I got them two sizes too small! I figured, you know, a goal to work towards. I'm always trying to help.

And finally, I got her a belly button ring! But wait...not for her, for ME! But that's the turn-around thing, you know, it's on me, but it's really for her, you know, to turn her on when it hangs over my belt and all.

Pretty thoughtful and original, hey? I think I outdid myself this time. Can't wait to see what she thought of the gifts. Now I'm back home, waiting. Not sure where she is, but she'll probably be home pretty soon. It's only 11:30 p.m.

I told her I loved her and that she was beautiful.

She got me a box of Godiva chocolates and a bottle of champagne.

I love being a trophy husband.

Simple for me...I gave her her favorite candy bar as I walked in from being on the road all week...yeah...it's true...absence does make the heart grow fonder! I could never get away with that any other time.

Re: What did you give the Mrs for Valentines?

Kind of like Joe, we don't get into the "here is what you need to buy your spouse", we will have dinner and a movie today while out mingling.

The best gift that we can give to each other, is each other.

I'll say it before someone else does, yeah the wife got the short end of the stick though!

Happy Valentine's Day. Not!

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=333&sid=2669511

From the article above:
"Undercover police officers posing as flower deliverymen on Valentine' Day arrested 23 people with outstanding warrants."

Maybe they're on to something. At Christmas time, who wouldn't come to the door for Santa. Or a Lottery Official. Or a Halloween costume. Is delivering flowers any different?
