Crude Oil

Why does the government invest money in Ethanol when it drives up the price of corn so much? And it is also not very efficient. If they threw as much money at http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...02_pigoil.html as they do Ethanol plants we would all be better off.

I like numbers. But I just figured, with their conversion, that our farm could produce around 100,000 gallons of crude oil/year. Which is about 2,380 barrels of oil. And we are a small farm.

I just don't see how Ethanol is going to solve anything.

It just makes it look like they are trying something so they get the public off their back. It will likely be quite a while before the government does anything that really does some good for the oil situation.

It seems to be having a big affect in Brazil. How do THEY make it work? Govt. subsidies?

I think they use Sugar Cane instead of corn.

Seems to be much more efficient in producing ethanol. They've had 30 years trying to optimize.

No way is the government going to support something like that.

Pig guts is a whole lot like people guts and it wouldn't be long
before folks were 'brewing' their own.

How would they tax that.

My guess is that growing and manufacturing your own would be pretty tough for the average Joe.

But you are right that the current administration would never support it, for other, obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure I don't need to spell out those reasons.

It breaks down to too many tree huggers that know just enough to be dangerous and someone in the government being able to make a lot of money in the deal. Same reason why recycling will never really catch on to the point where it can be really profitable.

Same deal with putting MTBE in the gas (turns it blue, it won't evaporate, eats gaskets, takes 25-30% more fuel to do the same work) to make it "greener."
