Credit billing scam by NCO Financial,

or some entity using their name.

I got a letter today stating a debt I owed Chase Visa was taken over by this company, and that I now owed $12k ($6241 in interest!), payment due, in full, in 90 days. I only use this card to buy food, so it was either a mistake, or fraud.

I was not able to get through to the number listed on the letter to check this out, and made a phone call to Chase. The woman stated it was her fourth fraud alert for this company in two days, three from Ca., mine from Pa.

There is no postage stamp on the envelope to indicate where it originated from.

Beware, if you get any letter from NCO, it is most likely fraudulent.

I have found that if you send a written complaint about your problem to the FTC office in your area, you may get better and possibly faster results. If you try this, make sure you send a copy of the letter you got with your statement and a contact point with phone number and name of your contact with your CC company. ALSO, at the bottom of your letter to the FTC - show a copy of your correspondence with all attachments (without your cc number visible) going to your Congressman - if he or she is up for reelection you may be surprised how helpful his office can be.

In my business, I have to deal with his type of thing all the time (trying to help clients fix problem - some of which are just plain fraud or total and absolute incompetence) and dealing with the credit reporting agencies is really a pain - so make sure you send them a letter regarding a fraud alert if you think it would help - because you CC company may not help you at all - at least my GM Card company had to be drug kicking and screaming over the last six months (and it is not over yet) to correct a small (thank GOD) problem. My multiple email replies and explanations to the cc companies employee, Sanjay Punjab have been - partially successful - at best.

Wishing you the best of luck,

And whatever you do you HAVE to write NCO, otherwise this will end up your Credit Record. NCO is known in the industry for running multiple of these scams just to say afterwards "oops, that was a mistake".

PM me if you want a sample letter.
