Gene Simmons - Who da thunk

Remember Gene Simmons of Kiss? Watch this video. I would never have thought of him in this light.

And to the admins and the rest of the mods, if this thread goes south I'm sorry ahead of time.

I've always liked KISS's music even though they embody "Sell Out". I've got more respect for Chaim Witz/Gene Simmons/The Demon then ever before.

I liked it. A hell of a way for him to show his support.

Ok, crucify me if you will, but his show - Family Jewels - is really good. The video posted was taken from one of the episodes. I'm sure some of the show is staged, but it's pretty funny at times. Both his kids really seem to have their heads screwed on straight, and his son Nick is really a talented artist and guitarist.

+1 I was a huge KISS fan growing up, but grew away from them as my tastes refined a bit. I really enjoy Gene's show as he seems like a down to earth, hardworking guy. I guess it takes money to make money, but he busts his balls to make it.

That's really good. It puts some perspective on how we perceive some people based on their character/stage act vs. who they are in real life. He's just another proud American!

I think I've watched every episode. It's very entertaining and It's nice to see that his kids are pretty normal. It would be so easy for them to be completely screwed up and out of control...

Gene's mother was jewish from Hungary. She was the only person in her family to survive the German occupation in WWII. She escaped to Israel where Gene was born in 1949 and then immigrated to the US when he was very young.

The family visited her in NY in one of the episodes. She seems like a great lady.

As and entertainer, I have not been a big fan of Gene Simmons.

However, Gene Simmons as a patriotic supporter of our troops, he has my respect.

Good on ol' Gene for giving his support for our men and women in service. Maybe it's better that most of them are too young to remember the band.

Never was much of a KISS fan. Maybe 'cuz I was afraid of clowns?

Ted Nugent is more my speed. Real rock 'n roll, pure and simple. He's never been "just an act", on or off the stage.

Oh man! I'm starting to have flashbacks of watching Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on TV!

Funny, he was on CNN in an interview and said himself his act is just that, an act.
An interviewer from the British newspaper The Independent questioned Nugent about a 1977 interview in High Times magazine in which Nugent allegedly detailed elaborate steps taken to avoid the Vietnam draft. While not denying that he made such statements, Nugent dismissed their veracity, claiming that when confronted with 'glazed-eyed' interviewers, he would "make stories up."

I wasn't aware of his "dodgy" history regarding 'Nam. The Wikipedia seems to have plenty of recent links to that effect. Call me an entertainment news ignorant. In such light, Simmons seems to fare better as a choice for rallying the troops.

Not that I necessarily have to eat any of my words. After all, I was just expressing my preference of rock bands in the 70s.

Put me down as another fan. I love his show and Shannon is the bomb. The wife and I went to see Kiss at the Greensboro Coliseum a couple years ago. Having only seen a few rock concerts I enjoyed the show. They were opening for Aerosmith. I enjoyed Kiss a lot more than Aerosmith.
