Young biker almost kill's himself

My daughters boyfirend of 6 months took a ride on a bike he was not licenced for today, No ATGATT, the only protective gear he had on was a helmet, and thats probably because it's the law.

Anyway, riding to fast for the twisty roads near us, lost control and slammed himself and his bike into a tree. Took the ambulance crew over an hour to get him in a position to move him, because his right foot was resting on his right shoulder, and his left kneecap was smashed. Covered from head to foot in cuts and bruises from the road rash.

He's a nice kid (21) and I thought until today he was sensible. we had talked many times about riding, and the importance of ATGATT, but I guess it takes something like this to either make them learn, or put them off for the rest of their lives. I hope he heals soon, and I'm never gonna let him take my daughter on the back of a motorcycle....ever!

Wow. That does NOT sound good....I don't think gear would have saved him from much pain since it sounds like he'll be on heavy med for some time...
Hope he makes a full recovery and can put it all behind him before too long.

I'm sorry to hear that. Being younger myself, I have wore gear since I bought my first bike. Im glad my brother always wore his Aerostitch suit. Made me want to wear it all the time. Now i just got addicted to it. Yes sometimes its hot, but I've had road rash real bad before and I don't want to go through that again. Anytime I see someone without gear and talk to them I encourage them to wear it. Even if you spend the money for hard armor if it gets ripped most insurance companies will pay for a new one. I hope he gets better.

Operation is planned for later today. There are gonna pin and screw is right thight (snapped the Femur just below the ball joint) and then he will be in bed for the next 2 weeks. His left kneecap is going to be left for the time being, and jsut going to put that leg under traction and a bandage to hold the broken kneecap in place.

Daughter is going to visit today and give him a piece of her mind now she is over the shock, and expalin the error of his ways. (riding too fast, not wearing ATGATT).
I hope he heals quick too, but he won't be fit for the holiday we all had planned in 10 days. Whole family, Me, wife, 3 daughters + botfirends and husbands were going away for a week, but now young Chris will be left behind in hospital, while we soak up the sun, if there is any.

Young lads! just hope he learns from this.

I hope he will be allright, nobody deserves to get hurt like that, but it will be a wise decision not to let your daughter ride with him in the future. He made a big error in judgement, and until he proves himself worthy, I would treat him as suspect.

Current rides:
2003 BMW 1200 LT (bought in 2006)

Past rides:
97 Kawasaki ZX11(bought new in 1997, sadly sold in September 2014)
89 Honda Hurricane (sold)
88 Honda Hurricane (traded on an SUV)
86 Kawasaki 1000R (stolen but recovered)
84 Honda 750F (traded on 1000R)
81 Suzuki GSX1100 (sold)
78 Suzuki GS750 (traded on GSX1100)
74 Yamaha RD50 (sold)

He'd likely be in a grave if he had gone helmetless. Except for the kneecap, no amount of body gear would have helped him in the case of all the body-mangling and blunt force trauma. Only common sense and maybe a slower bike.

Unless he's a true adrenaline junky, I'll bet he'll never want to ride a motorbike again.
