How about a good ole' butt-whooping if you DON'T make the grade!

Whatever happened to discipline?

Even if one is low income is no excuse for poor attendance or poor hygene or poor grades.

This is really interesting to me.
It's strange to me that we would target only people who are collecting welfare housing assistance, and not make this available to all students. What is the goal, or what should the goal be may be a better way to phrase it. Is it workable to only target those viewed as being needy? If we raise the income for those who are already recieving assistance, will it only serve to raise the minimum standard? (poverty level) In that instance, someone who is trying to better themselves by staying focused on education and not having children before they are able to care for them, would be double penalized wouldn't they? First they would not recieve the same amount of money, so they would automatically have a lower quality of life than an identical government aid recipient, AND the poverty line would most likely go higher.
Also, since this is targeted as an incentive for education, doesn't this automatically reward lower income people for having more children? Of course in this limited example, it isn't funded by tax money, but that is discussed as the next step, so it's something we need to think about. Is it fair to take money away from those who are earning it and then dole it out for people to have still more children? In most cases, the income earners in this country have families, so we'd be taking money from a family, only to turn around and give it to another. It sure sounds like Marxist or Socialist thinking to me.
It does not sound like a sustainable program, and at what point do we begin to recognize we're reinforcing negative self-destructive behavior? It seems to ignore the simultaneous social deconstruction being re-inforced as well as setting a precedent that people are entitled to money from society as a whole, just for being. I wonder how long until there would be protests that the amounts aren't enough?

ah... let's see.... watching your children's health fail in order to justify more govt. dependence... let me check.. yup... a Communist ideal.

Let's quit calling it "liberal", y'all.... enough of the PC stuff.... it's Marxist.... pure godless Marxism.

Ya know, there is no harm in some disciplne.... except it is against the "agenda"

Another Great Liberal Idea...

(Can of worms opening)

Good intentioned idea. Problem is that the entire family needs an education about want versus need when it comes to spending. (Yes, motorcycles and farkles are NEEDS.)

Ever notice how much marketing is done to people that don't have the money for the stuff in the ads?

I figured so long as you were using a few idiots to make your point I'd use one to make a point of my own.

Since I have been unable to figure out the logic or reason behind bashing liberals or conservatives, I may as well join in.

The fact is, neither party can lay claim to a monopoly on stupidity. It's up to us to choose the best candidate, not party.

Let's hope we as voters do a better job next time.

I was not bashing anyone to make a point. Only, pointing out the abusrb idea of throwing more money at a probelem hoping to make it better (an old liberal idea that never works)

I agree completely with that statement, although if trends continue we will get more of the same. I'll never understand how some of these people get elected to national office...

I remember Kansas getting sued by the tax payers a whole lot of years ago. They won and the state had to mandate spending that was in the multi billions. The schools looked like palaces with state of the art media learning centers, sports facilities and music departments. The grades just kept dropping after all of that. 60 Minutes had a long piece on the school program there. The only school that increased it's academic performance was an inner city school with a tough principle that spent the money on fixing the existing bad plumbing and classrooms. More teachers per student ratio. A three meal a day program for those that needed it. Uniforms for the kids and Security to keep the drug dealers out. The biggest change came from a contract with the parents that they read to their kids ,help with the homework, get them to bed at a reasonable hour and get them to school. The grades went up.
Anyone here from Kansas that can give an update on that program?

I'd have to agree with you... at least there will be no doubt with that continued choice of Marxism... To say that gentleman represents all Repubs is like saying Ted Kennedy represents ethics... driving or otherwise.. or Catholic.. and he CLAIMS to be Catholic... but he aint...

Can't seem to locate USA hating, Jesus hating, straight white people hating listed in this definition.

I am so very tired of the word liberal being used as slander and in total disregard for what a liberal person truly is, that is what the republican party or the pundants shilling for them want people to think a defines a liberal.

Gosh, giving, open-minded, free from prejudice or bigotry, protective of civil liberties, favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible. We need to get rid of those pinkos...

Hybridcage, I understand the point you're trying to make but the definitions are incomplete.
#16: Rosie O'Donnell, Sean Penn, Danny Glover (the Dictator Lover), John Kerry, and hundreds more
#17: All things ACLU
#18: Cut and Run
#19: Socialize Everything
#21: Disarm America
#22: Abolish All Common Sense

Here's a question for all Liberals to ask themselves before they vote in the next Presidential election. What political party would the Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, Hugo Chavez, all Anti-Americans, and Hillary Clinton want to win?

If they still vote for Ahmadinejad's favorite choice, you can list #*&%ing Stupid! for #23.
