Geico Claims

Does anyone have any experience with filing a claim with Geico?

My step-son had his Harley stolen at Sturgis. He filed a police report and then did the same with Geico. Subsequently, he had to give them a recorded account like the first report and now has to fill out a written report of the incident and answer all of the questions that have been asked before. Some of the questions are hard to understand how they might apply. For instance: Do you know who may have stolen your cycle? Has anyone in your family ever had a vehicle stolen, and if so, what was the outcome? Has all maintainance on the cycle been done by a professional mechanic? In addition, they want receipts for everything that has anything to do with the cycle except for gas.

It looks like they are jerking him around, and he is not sure that they will pay the claim for the amount he has it insured.

These seem like very standard questions to me that will help understand if there is anyone they should be looking for or if there is any fraud possibilities. I would ask the same questions.

Some of the most asinine things people do are typically preceded by the two words "Watch this."

Back in the '70's went insurance shoping. Checked out Geico and then put them on my "Do not do business with these rats" list. Looks like they haven't changed their habits much at all.

I have had Geico forever on the bikes , no claims. Allstate and State Farm on the other vehicles , boats and RVs. I had two stolen cars one each company. They both asked those type of questions looking for patterns .Turns out an oil change/tuneup place we used had a ration of vehicles stolen within a few months of service. An attendant or mechanic was making key copies and selling the address from the invoice and the key copy to a chop shop . Working with the cops and their internal investigators they catch a few and make recoveries. I would not take it personally even though the questions sound like they are accusing you of fraud.
