Another Take on "The Wave"

Thought I'd share this editorial from today's edition of an email newsletter from A.D. Farrow, a Columbus-based Harley-Davidson dealer. Their claim is they are America's oldest Harley dealer. Regardless, I thought the comments were interesting and they should be added to the "literature" on this site and others, regarding The Wave.

"A message from Our Dealer Principal,
Bob Althoff

On Oct. 15, 1981, a fan of the Oakland Athletics baseball team by the name of “Crazy” George Henderson invented something we all know and love to do at sporting events: The Wave. Everything truly does have to start somewhere!

The Wave is an extraordinary act. All those people, spread out over a vast stadium, with limited ability to connect or communicate, somehow come together in a giant cooperative way inspired by a common goal: to help the home team win.

Of course, we have our own wave. It is truly a wave, a universal gesture that riders use to pay respect to fellow riders. Our wave is a more private and personal act but it is nonetheless important: it feeds and nourishes the kinship that all rider’s share.

We at A.D. Farrow Co. are privileged to represent the greatest brand on earth in what we believe is the “motorcycling capital of the world.” We work hard seven days a week to support the motorcycle culture we serve. We hope our stores capture the spirit of The Wave – the purest expression of collective passion released - and that we are creating a home field advantage that we can all enjoy.

It matters not what you ride. If you are on two wheels, you are part of our motorcycling family. That said, we ask all of you to help keep our community strong. All it takes is a wave. Remember it every time you pass by another motorcyclist. Our sign of respect will be noticed by rider and non-riders alike. And our “team” will be stronger for it."

The Wave

Howard,
I get a 90% return with my waves with the LT!

About 50% when I'm on the K75.

Who says size doesn't matter!

A little trivia or maybe just my 2 cents
"Crazy" George wasn't necessarily an A's fan. He was actually a paid employee who, after leaving Oakland, did the same act at other cities. He would wander the stadium with his "tom-tom" and yell the crowd into answering his hollerin'
