Nice Day for a Bike Wash... and a Ride

The bad weather broke a few days ago. All the ice and snow has melted. Got up this morning and, after seeing the forecast for 55 and sunny, decided to wash the winter grime off the bike and go for a ride with a clean bike for a change.

When I backed the bike out onto the concrete apron outside the garage I noticed a very thin but very slick glaze of ice everywhere (a result of last night's heavy dew, which froze overnight). The ice melted quickly after sunrise, but the portion in the shade of the bike remained frozen. In fact, the air temp was cold enough that the runoff from washing the bike froze on top of the ice already there. As I went around the bike -- washing this side, then the other; drying one side, then the other -- I kept switching from normal walking to doing my best to keep from falling. I'm glad I live in the country and didn't have neighbors pointing and laughing.

The pics show port side dry, starboard side frozen. Where's Dorothy Hamill when you need her?

Hope you had a nice ride Howard. I know I did. Man does it feel good after 3 very long months to get back on the LT. Nice enough to ride to work the next couple of days too. Thank you Mother Nature.

For those who've been with me on my LT "journey", that's very funny. Funny, because I rode the bike for maybe 6 months before washing it the first time. Then washed it after maybe 2 months, then started washing it every couple of weeks. For the past 6 months I've washed it approx. weekly. I never thought I'd be washing a motorcycle frequently, but there are others who wash theirs more.

I still don't consider myself a clean-freak but I do like the way the bike looks after a good bath!

You can't afford me, Mike! Besides, I work too slowly to make it worth my while... or yours.

The hose is always available at a Tech Session if you feel the urge to ride home on a clean bike.
