Had a bad week? beat THIS!

And I thought I had a bad week last week when I:

Got caught in the middle of a 45 mile per hour "brown out" sand storm on I-8 in Imperial, CA in my almost new Mercedes ($8K plus in damage from the sand blasting) with my wife screaming in terror - at the same time our 12 pound poodle, who has never been sick a day in his life decided to munch on some duck s*** the day before was literally squirting out of both ends - which required a 3 hour visit to the Emergency Pet Hospital and a $402.00 bill - on the way to a week vacation in Laguna Beach - with a stay at a "beach house" owned by a friend of mine that is located about 5 yards from the 120 decibel 4 lane Pacific Coast Hwy - then got the flu with a 101 degree temperature for 4 days - even though I got a flu shot in October. At least it was sunny all week.

I have to admit in the middle of the storm with the dog losing it at both ends I started laughing pretty hard. I did not dare open the windows to get the stank out...

Here's the sand that came out of the INSIDE of the airbox that did not make it past the filters:

I also had a bad week, but you get the prize.

I once went through one of those brown outs in Imperial Valley on my nice shiny black LT! Stopped on the way home at the rest stop in El Centro to put on more clothing, as I knew it was going to get colder going up the mountains. Wind was blowing HARD, had to park the bike pointing into it so it would not blow over. Right after leaving the rest stop, the sand started kicking up, and in a couple more miles I could only see about 100 feet ahead. Of course as many know, once you leave the rest stop in El Centro, there is NO place to pull over until you are over the mountains, except a couple of small radiator water pull outs for overheating cars. Stayed that way until I was well up the side of the pass. Took a pretty good toll on my pretty black LT. Strangely, the wind was blowing mostly from the right side, but the LEFT side fairings and front of the left side case took most of the beating. Never figured that one out.

When I got home, I shook a lot of sand out of my clothing, and could feel it inside my helmet for days afterward.

Glad you are feeling better, but sorry about the Merc! don't know which was worse, the sand blasting outside, or the S*** blasting inside!

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work...I want to achieve it through not dying.

I'll be the first one to admit that I've had a pretty darned good life so far - call it luck, hard work, blessings, good kharma, whatever. Probably a combination of them all. I'm a fortunate soul.

But ya' know how it is Joe - how could I NOT drive a Mercedes to Laguna Beach?

Out there in La La land it is as common as a taxi cab in NYC.

Amazingly enough, I did not spot a single Bentley. Tons of Turbo Porsches, M6's, a couple of Lambos, S600's, and bling bling Cadillac Escalades with 25 inch wheels.

Good to be back home in the real world with Cowboy Limos. (Chevy trucks)

I can't even IMAGINE that on a scooter David.

I probably just would have pulled over and started weeping.

(and that's exactly what I was thinking as I was driving through it.... and the funny thing was I REALLY wanted to take the LT and trailer but got voted down by the boss...)
