Judging from the language in opening title, I'd say he is more of a flying Frog.

Americans like to think we're innovative, but the Europeans have us beat on their leisure activities and other pointless-but-exciting endeavors.

Leisure activities and exciting endeavors are not pointless.

Most else is.

Pointless as in open-ended, not moving towards some proscribed goal or result. In other words: You don't need a concrete purpose for doing it. I guess I don't know a better word, but I'm not surprised to see a fellow American take it as an epithet.

Playing golf and trying to improve your score is a very pointed activity, as are track meets, art auctions and photography. Going for a motorcycle or bicycle ride, a swim or jumping out of an airplane with a chute simply because it's fun are all pointless in the best sense of the word. Because "fun" is completely subjective and can't be measured with a score card or time record. I still say the Europeans are better at it than us Yanks (http://www.extremeironing.com/index.php).

I get annoyed when someone decides to pervert a perfectly pointless activity an make a contest out of it, like "competitive yoga". What we end up with are such vapidly bogus, subjectively judged athletic games like ice dancing or freestyle kayak.

Who's the "best" bungee jumper in the world? Who cares! That's not the point of bungee jumping. It's completely pointless.
