Odometer lawsuit

I just received notice that Honda was sued in a class action, and settled, for of all things defective odometers (too fast) for years 2002 through 2006 (2007 for the Fit). While Honda denied the allegation, they did settle and agree to remedies that are include extending the warranty mileage coverage by 5% (36,000 to 37.800, etc.), and reimbursing for leases, repairs and so forth. All the details at www.odosettlementinfo.com

Good thing BMW owners aren't so prone to litigation. The odo's on my LT and GS are both off a minimum 5%, not to mention the 7-8% error on the speedo's. The odometer on our 2005 CRV is spot on. Go figure.

I think that's why BMW is typically pretty lenient about warranty repairs over the 36K mile mark.

Speedos can be off up to 10% faster than actual speed and meet federal requirements. But they can't report speed slower than actual at all or the manufacturer can be held liable for damages and such. That's what got Honda. BMW is within specs with their speedos, even as anooying as it is on a number of models.
