Going to national champ game

Woo Hoo!!!! Not a big deal to most, but Appalachian State is going for it's SECOND national Championship in FOOTBALL and we got tix. Going to Chattanooga Friday to see [hopefully] the Mountaineers whup up on the UMASS Minutemen!!!

APP state is a division 1-AA school, so it's not the "big time"; but they are a tough bunch! When I was there, they were tough, but not tough enough to get to championship level.

Be sure to watch on ESPN2 Friday night at 8 pm!!!

We Furman fans congratulate our fellow Southern Conference school and wish them a big win against UMass. And we also say...wait 'til next year...Go Paladins!

Divison 1-AA IS big time football. Just ask those who play and cheer!

What I can't figure out is why more schools don't take a page from OSU in hiring coaches. All Jim Tressel has done coming from a Youngstown State Div 1-AA is win a national championship and has a pretty good chance at a 2nd one in January. Yet both UNC and NC State go out of their way to fire a couple of good coaches (but clearly not up to the challenge) to bring in somebody else who doesn't know the state, the schools, the high schools or the in state talent when Jerry Moore is knocking out great teams year after year.

Shhhhhh, we don;t want to lose Moore like we did Sparky Woods (to South Carolina).... I agree, the I-AA schools are often as tough as the "big" schools. Ask Wake Forest who quit playing against ASU after ASU took them out of the bowl games back in late 80's.

ASU has always had a pretty good football team. Now they need to work on the basketball prgram.

And yeah, I-AA is a big thing to those who go. Very serious. And they produce some pretty good players.
