MY EXCITING MOUNTAIN TRIP

Had to cancel out on STC this year but finally got my week in the mountains. Myself and two others from my local riding group rented a cabin for a week near Blairsville, GA. Spent a great week riding the twisties through the GA and NC mountains. Unfortunately on my way home Friday my trip was ruined with a flat rear tire. See the attached pic of the bad boy that ruined my day. Of course even though I was only about 20 miles from my home I was in no man's land with no cell coverage. I started walking the 6 miles back to a country store and was thankfully offered a ride by a passer-by. Spent the next hour and a half on the phone between Allstate Roadside Service who said they couldn't find anyone to come out to where I was and calling friends with trailers. Finally got a neighbor and fellow biker on the phone who came to pick me up.I got a ride back to my bike from the store and when I arrived there was one of Georgia's finest with blue lights on parked behind my bike. He ask if that was my bike and when I said yes he said you can't park there. He said it's too close to the road and pointed to a flat spot off the shoulder about 20 yards away. I looked at him and said, I'm 77 years old and allergic to exercise and so I'll steer and you push! He laughed and said OK. We moved the bike further off the road and he hung with me till my ride arrived. My compliments to the GA State Patrol, this guy was over the top! To further add to our memories on the trip up one our ridesr on a GW ran over a 6" long piece of rebar which stood up and poked a 1/2" hole in his oil filter. Again we were stranded with no cell phone coverage. I laid his bike down in the grass so I could get to the filter and managed to remove it while our 3rd member took off in search of an auto parts store which he found about 10 miles down the road. He returned with a filter and a jug of fresh Mobile 1 which enabled us to get back on the road. Fortunately our time in the mountains was blessed with good weather, great riding and no more trauma! This was one of those trips that will be shared for years to come around the camp fire!!

Re: MY EXCITING MOUNTAIN TRIP

These are the stories we like to hear when no one was hurt from encountering a little adversity. We also hope that it wasn't us who was telling the tail.

Thanks for getting that screw and the rebar off the road. I will be doing a similar trip in a few weeks and am glad I don't have to worry about finding them myself.

As my Mom always tells me when these things happen, "It's all part of the adventure."
