Where to stay in Maine

Anybody know somebody or know of a place in Bar Harbor;Maine that is flexable on dates when coming into Bar Harbor ME. for two couples in the middle of August
I been doing a little looking on web and seeing a lot of motels and inns have a lot of filled up dates already and I do not know of a exact date I will be there Its a long shot but I thought I would throw it out there

For anybody that has been there is this not a problem that you can just ride there and find a place to stay

Re: Where to stay in Maine

Your situation may vary from mine.
Last June my trip was done with a mindset of camping. And it turned out to be very accomadating finding places I had researched before the trip. The good thing was as a single rider and not knowing exactly when I would arrive I made no resevations. It worked out just fine. During my 2-day ride around the island I vaguely remember seeing a couple hotel/motel and lots of places to eat. I stayed at the Seawall camp ground.
Also there is a welcome/info center just before crossing onto the island to Acadia N.P.

Re: Where to stay in Maine

Gary,

billsmith mentioned he was there in June, note most kids still in school until late June and not the warmest time for Maine weather. August is the peak vacation season for Maine, especially Bar Harbor.. You can almost always find some place to stay, you just will be limited in selection. You would have better luck finding something in Bangor, it isn't a vacation spot, and riding over to Bar Harbor from there. HTH

By the way try not travel on a friday...traffic

Re: Where to stay in Maine

Hi Gary,

The wife and I stayed at the Wonder View Inn in Bar Harbor (27 - 30 Sept) last year. We stayed in the Hill Crest building. Hit the fall colors at a perfect time as the leaves had yet to start falling. (Pet-Friendly Bar Harbor Hotel - Maine Vacation Near Acadia.), take a look for yourself. Definitely short walking distance to the town. We had a room with a view of the bay/ocean since the place is on a hill. Having been there and looked at the other hotel/motels I thought it was one of the best picks.

Have a great trip,
Jer

Yeah, after my 2day stay I backtracked off the island.
Then I picked up Rt 1 all the way down the coast to Portland. That day of travel was slow but beneficial since I was looking for souvenirs for my wife in every quaint town I went thru. The weather was great all the way to NY. Checkout 'rides' pg.4 "I'm back pt II" for more details.
