January Thaw

Looks like we are going to have a bit of a thaw. Calling for 10 C on Friday and Saturday, should be able to get out for a ride on the rat bike.

Re: January Thaw

Same here 54 deg.
Except I would not call it a thaw cause we haven't really experienced freezing as yet. Temp wise yes but snow and ice NO! This is very unusual for my neck of the woods oops! I meant lake with a ton of water right next to us lake Michigan. We have rain though started last night.

Re: January Thaw

Turned out to be a real nice day, even a bit of sun. About 250 kms, I have never gone any real distance on a bike in January before. I could get used to this.

Re: January Thaw

Billsmith - it sounds like winter is going to catch up to you tonight and tomorrow according to the forecasts. Freezing rain, sleet and snow. Be careful out there.

Here in Michigan we saw the last of our snow melt away today with temps in the upper 50's. It was a great day for a ride.

Let me use your crystal ball.
You nailed it. Friday night I was warmer than family in San Diego. My temp was 51 and theirs was mid 30's. Today I was tempted to roll it out and do my running around. But I delayed until afternoon and the sun left grey skies in its retreat. Still about 50 going in the car but on the way back it had dropped to 37. Maybe after the weekend we might see that January Thaw hopefully

Smile Re: January Thaw, New Steed

Only -12c here, anyways, new steed to the herd here. Bought it at the motorcycle show yesterday. Now I need to build a trailer to tow behind the GTL so that when I want to go off road I have my KLR with me. Couldn't justify double the price for a 650GS. Also Esther told me to buy it!

Congrats on the KLR, a definite economical off roader. Keep warm...

Re: January Thaw

Haven't had my motorcycle out since the 3rd week of October. First time ever I haven't been able to ride sometime during the winter. -15 today. I guess I'll have to make due going to the Motorcycle Show.

Reality check.
We both know how it is around here. We probably bare the scars of winter in the mid-west. Missed riding maybe but any day in Jan. or Feb. without shoveling or a snow blower in your ear nothing to miss about that. I am at a stage where I get on the bike I hate it to be cut short. Touring is in my blood and I will not get very far on a spring day in Jan. I thought about rolling the wheels around the neighborhood but took advantage of the time to run errands. I got just a dusting last night. Still no big stuff but not complaining.

Re: January Thaw

Congratulations Garry!!! You cannot have too many motorcycles. Now if I can get my wife to agree, then maybe I can add another one to our garage as well. I should get Esther to talk to her !!! Be sure to let us know how it rides.
