Not so in the Maritimes....35 cm of snow last Saturday, another 15 on Tuesday. Minus 12 C today with wind chills to -20. I think it will be awhile before I will be taking the cover off the RT.

Re: It's March

I forgot you guys south of the border are one of the last hold-outs to convert things to metric, or vice versa. 35 cm = 14 inches, 15 cm = 6 inches (divide metric by 2.5). Quite honestly since I am from the old-school, I still think in Imperial measurements and have to convert, with snow I am getting used to the conversion, stil have trouble with temperatures and liquid measurements. I know how cold it is by steping outside. The USA were smart not to convet, wish we never had, we still have duplicate measurements in the grocery store...very confusing and expensive since you guys are our biggers trading partner, everything brought into the country has to have more info on the labels. Maybe North America should revolt against the metric invasion.

Fired up the snow blower for the first time this year. The end might be in sight but I'm having a little trouble seeing it.

RT is still hibernating under its little blanket and is not showing signs of waking up any time soon.

Back to the latest issue of RoadRunner.

Big woop! now it is 65F and sunny and 35 to 40 mph winds. I would rather have the calm 35F. I can at least prepare for the cold, nothing prepares you for a 40 mph cross gust of wind. Nothing is worse than looking out the window at a beautiful blue cloudless sky knowing it is to dangerous to go riding and it would be no fun to try.

Re: It's March

I just got done cleaning up another 20 cm, 8 inches of "intermitent flurries" , at least that is what the weather forecaster called it. If that accumulation is "flurries", I sure hope they don't call for a 'nor-easter'. I have been using the bike to lean the snow shovels on.

I'm looking forward to a ride to the NB North Shore and Gaspe, maybe will have to wait till July at this rate? We got a few inches here in NH Seacoast overnite Friday, but it mostly melted yesterday and hoping for more melting today with a run of warmer temps forecast. We have only a few inches on the ground in places here.

Re: It's March

Things are improving here in N.B., last week one day it was 19C, about 67 F, hottest place in Canada for that day, snow banks dropped close to 2 ft in the past week. However, it is a while before it will be safe to ride here, the craters in the road where the asphalt used to be are huge and numerous. Not only do we have to wait for the snow to melt, we have to wait until the asphalt plants fire up for the season. There are some holes that I am afraid that I could lose the car in (of course I have one of those half-size Smart for-2 cars that Mercedes make), not much bigger than the bike.

Re: It's March

Bit of a rainy weekend but finishing up nice..

It will be in the 70's and low 80's here all next week...

After several record winter snowfalls I decided to buy a snow blower last fall...

This winter we had no accumulation of snow.. We got dusted a couple times but that's all...

The snow blower worked great... Did it's job perfectly... Didn't use a drop of gas...

Kind of like an environmental scarecrow....

Re: It's March

After 4 days & about 4 inches of rain the sun came out around noon & I was on the bike by 3:00 for a nice ride. Got home just in time to go pick up a stranded HD with a flat.

Re: It's March

It was +6C today & the next week is forecast to be in the +5C or so in Edmonton.
I think I'll be able to get the 03 R1150GSA out & take it for an 'Out Of Province Inspection', that will save some $$$ & some hassles :-). I'll then be able to give a good going over ready to go riding :-).

Re: It's March

Well it is 17 C today (or 63 F) and sunny in Brampton (outside Toronto)....I just couldn't wait any more. I managed to squeeze in a short ride over lunch...man it is great to be back out. It was a little windy.....but hey it is March and I am riding. If the forecast holds I should get out a few more times this week..

Reminds me of a ride from Moncton to Dalhousie one winter many years ago. We were using the whole road to dodge potholes somewhere south of Miramichi (back when it was called Newcastle!) and we hit one so hard that my brother and I bounced our heads off the ceiling. We continued on and a short way further came around a corner to find a car on fire with flames shooting at least 30' in the air! The driver materialized out of the darkness and said he had hit the same bump and it must of broke a fuel line free and lit the car up!
